Do you have printQueue objects in the LDB database?
I don't know anything about printing, but these have the right kinds of attributes:
lDAPDisplayName: printQueue
systemMayContain: driverVersion
systemMayContain: driverName
systemMustContain: printerName

printer list from cups without restart?
Hi,
while using cups as a print system and sharing all the printers with
samba to windows clients, is it possible to 'view' a newly created
printer in the browse list without restarting smbd ? (samba 2.2.7)

samba will expose the printqueue to the clients.

This succeeds; the driver is uploaded.

The reason is, that in ntdrivers.tdb the entry for the driver...

completed printjobs stay in queue after "upgrade" 3.0.20rc2 -> 3.0.20
A few weeks ago, I upgraded Samba 3.0.1x to 3.0.14a . After the upgrade,
all completed printjobs on all 40 printers stayed in samba's print queue
(they were removed from the unix-printqueue). When I installed
3.0.20rc2, everything back to normal.
But since the upgrade this weekend to 3.0.20, the same thing happens
again: no jobs were removed from the samba printerqueue's.
Removing the .tdb files clears the queue, but doesn't solve the problem...
Any hints?

Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ?
...using samba with CUPS printing (with raw passthru)
for a long time now and it worked very well.
But after upgrading my samba installation from 3.0.2 to 3.0.9,
the printjobs (sent from XP Workstations) aren't
removed from the joblist anymore.
Means: the job is printed correctly, but opening the
printqueue on the XP machine still contains the job
(not only mine, but jobs from every user who sent one).
When I now delete them manually, they're gone.
Since I can't find any remaining SMB or CUPS spool-files,
(thought about missing access rights for deletion)
I don't know what to look for....

printing info needed
Hello experts,
I really did'nt want to, but now I have to understand what's really going on
when trying to print.
I need to know why the hp 9x0C deskjet printqueue even don't want to open the
properties window and
sometimes the KXdrivers from Kyocera refuse to print.
I can find questions in the lists but no answeres.
As there is so much documentation and source code on the one hand and MS
secrets on the other, I really can't find out where I can fi...

Enumeratings shares on Samba (3/4) servers with vbs
...WScript.Echo s.Name
Next
The code works fine against Windows 2003/2008 R2. But if SERVER is an
Samba Server (tested 3.6.x/4.0.10) i get an group not found error.
Other this like printer enumeration works
Set printers = GetObject("WinNT://SERVER,Computer")
printers.Filter=Array("PrintQueue")
For Each p In printers
WScript.Echo p.Name
Next
Do i have to add some config to my smb.conf to get the LanmanServer
queries resolved?
Thanks in advance

Re-2: Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ?
That was a good hint!
Yes, I've installed SP2, and it realy seems to be the Problem.
Now I've checked that on a machine with SP1 - and the jobs
from the same printqueue are removed correctly there!

Cannot get HP1055CM Color Plotter to work with "Point and Click"
G'day All,
We are using Samba 3.0.6 as a PDC and print server. The OS is RHEL 3.0.
I've gone thru the procedure detailed in "The Official Samba Howto..."
book and the other HP and Lexmark LaserJet printers work properly using
the postscript drivers. However, HP 1055CM Color Plotter works best with
the HPGL/2 drivers if the drivers are installed on the client
workstation but, do

3.5.1 64 bit windows printing is working a bit
...10]
lib/util_sock.c:726(read_smb_length_return_keepalive)
got smb length of 224
All this is done on a 'windows 7 only' samba machine, I had no luck to
install the driver in an environment with x86 drivers already installed,
there was no way to get 'rpcclient' to associate the printqueue with teh
driver.
So as far as I see it windows 64 bit printing is working in principle but
not in a way someone could use it as a service.
If there is any interest in debug logging output or experiences with other
drivers and/or configurations don't hesitate to send me e-mail I am mor

Win2K Printer "Access Denied" Error
Hello,
I have a new RH 7.2 installation (kernel 2.4.7-10) with
Samba 2.2.1a and I can't print from my Win2K box. I get
an "Access denied: unable to connect" error from the
printer entry in Windows. The logs don't seem to be
helping me. Here's my smb.conf file:

Windows XP printer status, samba and cups
...le server in the domain, access rights are all ok,
I can login to the domain as domain user, I am using cups, tried the
lprng setting in smb.conf as well with no change to the status problem.
I am using normal windows pcl printer drivers. I can print when logged
into the linux box and I can ask for printqueue status as normal
non-priviliged linux user. I have played around with chmod 777 and the
/var/spool/cups and /var/spool/samba without having a resolution to my
problem.
Could it have something to do with the following error?

Printing problem! CUPS, XP-pro
...ect (smb.conf below).
The problem is, sometimes when i choose to print from my XP-pro machine,
the printer don't react... The shares work fine, and i read/write from
them, but i can't print. Neither cups, samba or syslog throws any error
in the log, and the printjob just halts in the XP-printqueue in the
systray. The printer shows itself as ready, but if I try to change any
options in the printer preferences, I get a CAN'T SAVE CONFIGURATION error!
The problem is solved only upon a samba-restart, and then I print and
change options without any problems... until next time I can't...

IP Appears Rather Than Servername
Since we updated to 3.0.6 we are having an oddity that the server IP
appears in printer UNCs rather than the IP address. For instance
printer \\barbel\grdps appears in the printer status box as "192.168.1.9
on grdps". It still works, but this is both odd and unsightly. DNS
forward and reverse is working. It does this on both our 3.0.6
servers. On adding \\sardine\pdfconv print
