smbprint to Win XP
My server is running Centos 4. The printer is attached to a Win XP machine. Print service is CUPS. Samba version is 3.0.10. I can use smbclient to connect to the printer and successfully print. I have set the printer up with exactly the same settings as I am using with smbclient. When I use lpr to print nothing prints and when I do an lpstat I get the message: Connection failed with error

I think we found a new bug in smbclient
...end them to samba_print ..... for printout on the workstation?s printer. It`s working sometimes, but not allways. We found out that the problem was reportet in /tmp/smb-print.....log samba_print calls smbclient and sends "print -" to the prompt smb> and redirects the stdin form the printfile Sometimes it does not send "print -" and all sequences of the HP-printfile are interpreted as commands! After a lot of messages "command not found" the process is waiting for a exit command / but this command was not sent and so it`s hanging.... The funny thing is, that it`s de...

Spool files not deleted when "printing = cups"
...solution is, as in the attached patch, to delete the file at the end of cups_job_submit(). print_cups.c.dist is as distributed in samba-2.2.5.tar.gz . A cleaner (more generic) alternative might be to add a configuration option applicable to all printing types which does the deletion, eg remove printfile = yes -- James M.R.Matheson Head of Computer Systems Group, E-mail: jmrm@eng.cam.ac.uk University Engineering Dept, Phone: +44-1223-332756/332711 Trumpington Street, Fax: +44-1223-332662 Cambridge CB2 1PZ, WWW: http://www.eng.cam.ac.uk/~...

CUPS permissions issues
Hello- I am running Debian Woody, Samba 2.2.7, and Cups 1.1.14-3. I can print as any local Linux client, but there is a permissions issue when I try to print from Windows 2000. My spool directory is /var/spool/cups, the permissions are set 700 to user lp and group sys. If I chmod the directory to 777, printing works fine, but when I restart cupsd, the permissions revert back to 700. I am running

Page_log with number of pages prtinted wrong
The Adobe drivers (on request of the printer PPD associated with them) often put a PJL header in front of the main PostScript part of the print file. Thus, the printfile starts with <1B >%-12345X or <escape>%-12345X instead of %!PS). This leads to the CUPS daemon auto-typing the incoming file as a print-ready file, not initiating a pass through the pstops filter (to speak more technically, it is not regarded as the generic MIME-type application/postscri...

CUPS filtering mechanism explained, was: [cups raw mode, was Re: unlink data file in cups_job_submit]
...lity as in these other spoolers. "cupsomatic" is only a vehicle to execute a ghostscript commandline at that stage in the CUPS filtering chain, where "normally" the native CUPS "pstoraster" filter would kick in. cupsomatic by-passes pstoraster, "kidnaps" the printfile from CUPS away and re-directs it to go through Ghostscipt. CUPS accepts this, because the associated CUPS-O-Matic-/Foomatic-PPD carries a line reading *cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-postscript 0 cupsomatic" This line persuades CUPS to hand the file to cupsomatic, once it has suc...

What am I missing here?!
OK, I've tried changing my printcap name from printcap to cups. Printing works fine locally using CUPS on the Samba box. What am I missing here? Why can't I print to the Samba box via the Windows and linux clients? Shared directories work fine. I am really frustrated here and have exhausted Google and all other resources I have. Here's my smb.conf for what it's worth.

ERRDOS message from smbclient
...printer share <---WAN---> Win95 printer share (NT is sharing a share...) About a year ago, I wrote a printer script that is used by the lp system to print to the printer using an lp command. As an error check, the script saves the output of the smbclient program to a log file, and saves the printfile into my directory, just in case the printing screws up. Things were working quite well up until about a month ago, when smbclient began to give the following error message: smbclient returned Server time is Thu Jul 31 05:31:24 1997 Timezone is UTC-7 CR/LF<->LF and print text translation n...

page_count x number_of_copies
Hi all! I have a samba print server which stores information about each job. To accomplish this, I have set 'printing = sysv' so I can use print command. Print command passes to a script some info including '%c' (page_count). The problem is that if someone sends more than one copy of the document, %c doesn't tell me so. It means that %c tells exactly the number of pages sent

No printing - program in BPS Borland Pascal for Windows
Hello, I am trying to use an accounting program specifically written for the management of local churches in Belgium. The original program was written in BPW Borland Pascal for Windows. When a print command is given, absolutely nothing happens. When using the notepad under Wine, printing is ok. I am wondering if someone has met a similar problem. What could I do to print the output of the

smbclient & printing on win2k box with HP Deskjet 560C (Drivers?) SMB 2.2.3a - Kernel 2.4.7, red hat 7.2
Hi LUs, I dont have much time at the moment to read tons of documentation. So, I would like to ask a hopefully easy to answer question. Samba is running alright with me, smbclient works fine, but I would like to print from my Linux box over LAN to a printer (HP 560C) connected to a win2k box. Because I can't afford a better or second printer & I also havent got enough room for it

Hello Joel, Thank you very much for your reply. I tried use the same print command under UNIX as I have in sam.conf, it works well. Do you have any futher ideas? BTW, could you tell me where I find docs about print using Samba2.2.2 and W2K? Thanks a lot, Grace What happens when you print a postscript file from the samba server directly using the same print command as you have in smb.conf?

rpcclient error -- CUPS 1.1.16 provides PostScript driver for WindowsNT/2K/XP
...). You can have both, CUPS and ADOBE* versions present in "/usr/share/cups/drivers/", and "cupsaddsm" will take the ones you put there last (for the NT/2K/XP clients). What is the advantage in using the CUPS PostScript drivers on Windows? They will include some settings for the printfile encapsulated as PostScript comments: from the second line in the file you'd discover a few "%cupsJobTicket: ..." lines. Every other interpreter will ignore them, but CUPS as a RIP will evaluate them as settings for the printjob. The driver no longer puts "JCL" commands in f...
