printernames vs. sharenames
Hello, when I assign a printer driver to a printer from a windows client, the printername now changes to the drivername. Yes, I can see the SPOOLSS_SETPRINTER call with the printername property, but that's definitly not what I want (or would expect). E.g. when I change the drivers of 3 printers to HP Laserjet, I get 3 printers with the names "HP Laserjet [(Copy 1|2)]"....

Samba 3.0.20pre2 printer driver problem
...erday. The servers OS is FreeBSD-5.4. the configure run was okay, except for the aio part, but thats another point. compiling went fine and installation too. After starting smbd and nmbd i saw all printers but unfortunately all driver association where lost! i found out, using rpcclient, that all printernames where converted to lowercase. In Samba 3.0.14a all printernames where uppercase. i acted fast and switched back to 3.0.14a to make our clients happy. here is an example output of rpcclient's "enumprinters 2" command that you can see the difference. 3.0.14a: servername:[\...

cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all, I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use. I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot find the PPD file... where is

Null PrinterName
Hi, I'm running Samba 2.0.4b on a Debian Linux (v2.2) PC. If I look at the "log.smb" file there are many messages: Attempt to locate null printername! Internal error? ...t directly to the printer. If it is set for the ghostscript "HP LaserJet 8100" filter (if there is one), then Linux will also try to translate the print job as it comes in. This causes a lot of problems with some printers. :) At NCC, for each printer there are two queues within Linux: PrinterName and X-PrinterName (or X_PrinterName when using CUPS). The regular PrinterName queue is just a raw print queue which we use to print to from all Windows computers. The X-PrinterName is what we print to from within Linux/UNIX and has the ghostscript filters running on them. To the users, the prefix...

request for documentation improvement
...documentation can be integrated in CUPS via the directory /usr/share/doc/cups/help. So my request is to add more detailed information to the documenation. It concerns the printing to a Windows printer via Samba which needs a username and password for authentication. CUPS needs the smb://servername/printername scheme to find the Samba shared printer. This information is relatively easy to get, but it took me hours to find out, that I have to write smb://username:password@servername/printername to hand over a username and password for authentication. Maybe this information could be added to the Samba doc...

installing printer in a logon script
Hello, I have Samba 3 PDC and win2k sp4 client. I would like to install printer on a machine globally, for all users. To do this, I use: net use X: \\server\unattended /user:domain\unattended password rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /q /y /ga /in /n \\server\HP2000C First line is mounting share (Administrator is not logged to the domain), and the second line is to install printer.

print directly on another computer's LPT
...ting via GDI is no problem. i have application that must print directly to LPT ports on several computers. on local printer, there's no problem, but i can't access LPT port on another computer. in windows, i could simply map it to LPT2, and use the LPT2 "net use LPT2: \\servername\printername" or in my application i could open the network name directly: handle = fopen("\\servername\printername"); fwrite( handle, buffer, buffersize ); fclose( handle ); is it possibly to do that under wine? or similiar solution to do that?

Samba 3RC4 printing issues
...t this is "difficult" for users adding printers on the fly. Adding the printer from \\server\printers works fine too, but again, this is a complication too far for the average user. Is there a resolution for this? Major(ish) one: Adding a printer to Windows 9x results in the error "printername.PPD not found on \\server\print$\WIN40\0\printername.PPD"; forcing it to browse to the print$ share and appropriate sub-directories shows the correct file (even down to case!) but results in the same failure. The files preceding it in the load process add fine (Adobe stuff). Everything works o...

3.0.6 & "string overflow by 1"
I updated one of my file servers to 3.0.6, and while file serving is improved (no M$-Office file already open messages), every time I access a printer my logs flood with messages like to those below. It seems I can set printer properites, etc... but when I print the jobs seem to go to never-never land (still researching where the jobs go). [2004/08/20 08:46:27, 0]

Problems adding a printer share
I have added an HP Deskjet 600 to my debian etch system, using CUPS. It is working fine. I would like to set it up so that I can occassionally print to it from a Windows 9x machine. This is where I seem to be having trouble. I consulted the HOW-TO docs on the samba site, but they are quite detailed and confusing (for me). I don't want to do anything that will cause the printer to work
