SOLVED [cups] print_job: Unsupported format "application/octet-stream"
Gustavo Courault <courault@gigared.com> has solved this for me with the following advice and I have enclosed my smb.conf file in case it may help anyone, I'm running Samba-2.2.2 and CUPS printing to a Epson-777 injet via a Edimax $40 printserver attached to the back of the printer with a static IP address assigned to the printer. My OS is RedHat-6.2 <quote> I uncomment the line

print_job: resource name '...' no good!

Fwd: SOLVED [cups] print_job: Unsupported format "application/octet-stream"
The attached message is 2001, but was the top of the list in a Google search for the error message. The same solution fixed a SuSE 9.3 Samba/Cups problem for a Brother MFC 3360C printer. Thanks! Page_log with number of pages prtinted wrong
The Adobe drivers (on request of the printer PPD associated with them) often put a PJL header in front of the main PostScript part of the print file. Thus, the printfile starts with <1B >%-12345X or <escape>%-12345X instead of %!PS). This leads to the CUPS daemon auto-typing the incoming file as a print-ready file, not initiating a pass through the pstops filter (to speak more

Printing Errors
I've been running RedHat 5.0 and Samba flawlessly for over 6 months now. I had to reboot the server and now I can't seem to print. When I use the "Printtool" to send a test text or postscript job to the printer, I get the following error: Unable to print to HP4000 Error Message: lpr: connect: no such file or directory jobs queued, but cannot start daemon The printer is set up

Hi. I run SuSE 8.1 and samba here. On the linux machine I have a HP1100A on the parallel port, and a HP-DJ895Cxi on a USB port. I can print ok from this linux machine to both printers. From my laptop, that runs WIN98, I can print to the HP1100A printer. I cannot print to the DJ895Cxi, even if its set up as a network printer. I could do this with SuSE dists up to 8.0. From 8.1 printers are

Printing not working after upgrading to 3.0.4
I had been running Samba to share my HP printer among my Windows XP clients. When I upgraded to 3.0.4, I can no longer print. When I start the print job in Windows XP, the printer lights blinks for a few seconds, and then stops. No pages come out. The print job is shown as complete in the CUPS web intrface. Printing from the Linux box works just fine. I read the Samba pages concerning

Printing from Windows is printing PS commands instead of job!
I've about run out of ideas and need some help. I have an HP OfficeJet 7110 installed on my Fedora Core 3 box. From Linux, it prints perfectly, the Test Page works, I can print from Mozilla/Thunderbird/Firefox, KDE applications, and even Emacs, all without any issues whatsoever. The problem is I can't seem to get it to work when I share the printer to Windows. I've shared it to

Samba print command only works on restart, help!
hey I am running Samba 2.2.8 on FreeBSD4.8, and all is working well, except: I have set up a virtual printer using Samba to take a print job, turn it into a pdf and then email it back to an address, using a perl script and the Samba print command. I have tested the script logging in as the Samba guest user and it works fine, but when i try to print to the printer it never works: the script is

my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Hello, It seems that I am in printer hell once again :) I am trying to sort out some printer problems with our UNIX server. The basic problem is this. I have a test server to K.I.S.S the problem. On this server I have defined two queues which are csqlis and HPfinley. csqlis seems to work correctly and displays ready. HPfinley always reads Paused on win2k and NT40 clients. The output of the lpq
