Mates, Still can't get the latest samba binaries to inatall on SuSE 9.3. I've downloaded them from the samba site and from ftp://ftp.primastasys.com/pub/Samba-Packages/ still no joy. The problem is library related: nemesis:/home/david/Documents/linux/rpms/samba320 # rpm -Uvh * warning: cifs-mount-3.0.20-0.1.i586.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 414a57c3 error: Failed

RE: [SLE] SuSE 9.3 and Latest Binaries - Library Conflict
Cross-posting scares me, but... Have you looked at the latest RPMs for SuSE, from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/samba/ ? They've worked like a charm for me, thus far (revision after revision, a simple rpm -U * seems to work...) -----Original Message----- From: david rankin [mailto:drankin@cox-internet.com] Sent: Mon 9/12/2005 5:30 PM To: samba; Suse Linux Subject: [SLE] SuSE 9.3 and

Interdomain trust problem
Hi all, I have two different domains. At one point I had them trusting eaach other but then I ruined it. Now I am trying to get them back. They both have LDAP backend. I need them bot to trust each other and be trusted by each other. Here are the steps I am following: 1. On each domain, create a computer account called the other domain: CORP: smbldap-useradd -ai FURN$ CORP:

[Nearly Resolved] Samba-3 by Example, Ex 2.4
OK, I've got this one working, but only by enumerating the valid users in the "files" share--%S wouldn't work in the valid users field (e.g., "smbclient //<servername>/files" would simply give an NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED error). This would be OK for a small LAN, but for small enterprises or LANs with 75-100 users, as some on this list have mentioned, that

Changes to HOWTO and maybe Samba Guide for Solaris patches
Sun has changed the organization of their web site a lot over the years, and I just noticed that a URL included in the HOWTO is broken now. Perhaps there are others as well. In section 39.6.2 "Winbind on Solaris 9" (p. 503), Solaris 9 users are directed to download a patch from the following URL: http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/findPatch.pl?patchId=112960;rev=14 But the Sun

'profiles' command with WinXP Profiles
Hi all, I have gotten the 'profiles' command to work for NT and Win2K profiles very well. In Windows XP, I am able to change the 'owner' but not the 'group' SID. It gives no errors but it just doesn't change them. A snippet of the profile in question is below: furnsrv:/data/samba/profiles/jon # profiles NTUSER.DAT |grep S-1-5 Owner SID: S-1-5-32-544 Group

nscd, ldap and the root/Administrator account
Hi, I'm using Samba 3 as a PDC with an Openldap backend and also have a number of Samba domain member servers that lookup the ldap directory for their account information. I use ssh to perform various administration tasks. There is an account called Administrator in the LDAP directory that has a UID of 0 . However, after nscd has been started, the next time i login to one of the member

Samba's ADS security mode on Sun Solaris
Hi, I have installed and configured with success Samba 3.0.2a (using a binary package) on a Sun Solaris 8 using the DOMAIN security mode. I used the usermaps.txt file to simplify the overall configuration of Unix vs Windows users, e.g. no winbindd/ldap/pam/etc... I now have a requirement to set it up using the ADS security mode. So, my understanding is that I need to start from the Samba

Time to give back, Samba LDAP with FreeRadius
If this is off topic I apologize in advance. Using Samba 3.0.13 with an LDAP back-end and FreeRadius I was trying to add the Radius schema and kept getting object class violations. It's my limited understanding of LDAP that you can not have more than one structural objectclass. I'm no ldap expert so no email telling me how wrong I am. So I came up with a another solution. Using the

Conversion smbpasswd 2.2.8 to 3.0.13
Dear All I'm about migrating Samba 2.2.8 to 3.0.13 on Sparc, Solaris 8. Compilation and Installation without any problem. Runs fine with exception of 2.2.8-user validation in the domain (no problems with validation of WXP- and W2K-Client Machines, newly set users (./smbpasswd -a username) works perfectly ). I simply have copied smbpasswd 2.2.8 to the diferent directory of Samba 3.0.13.

SuSE 9.3 samba binaries FUBAR??
Mates, I dunno if nobody else is using the samba binaries to put 3.0.20-1 on SuSE 9.3 -- or -- if I'm just doing something stupid, but there seem to be library problems. Specifically, we are getting library errors for the *.so.2 libraries, regardless of whether we try via YAST or RPM. david@nemesis:~/Documents/linux/rpms/samba320> ll total 19970 -rw-r--r-- 1 david users 60998

Using winbind authentication with Windows 2003 AD - SSH login failures
Hi all, I have been trying to setup authentication of users on a Linux server against Windows server 2003 using winbind. I am at the point where an su - ADUSERNAME works, but sshing as that user still doesn't work. When I try to ssh as an AD user as follows: ssh -l "RILINUX+testuser" server.domain.com I get the following output in /var/log/messages: server pam_winbind[5906]:

URGENT! Need to move Samba to another computer
Since 2004, I've been running Samba 2.0.7 on a Solaris 8 computer as a member of a Windows 2003 Server domain - nothing fancy, just mapping Unix home directories to PC users. Now I must QUICKLY move this same Samba config to another computer, and (for the life of me!) I can't recall the steps necessary to "join" the domain. I've read the associated Samba 2.0.7 doc,

getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I'm trying to get a FreeBSD 5.4 server to join a NT4 domain as a member domain server using winbindd. I've compiled Samba with WinBIND support, ACL Support, Syslog support, UTMP support, SMB PAM module, and with installed POPT library. I've reviewed Chapter 20 of TOSHARG and implemented a good portion of it into our smb.conf file but am having trouble making the 'getent'
