External Backup Systems?
Hey everyone, My home server just had a disk failure a few weeks ago and like a lot of people I haven't ever really made backups on a regular basis. So I was looking into backup solutions which will save me from this situation again. Now I have Bacula setup, and backing up my files onto my home server. Although this works great, I have one issue: The disk in my server was the one that

So I think I must use a challenge-response system with an hardware token that isn't connected to the computer. I do not want to use a RSA ACE/SERVER, so i can't use SecurID ? I can't use challenge response mode with cryptocard, because I want to protect it against

Grandstream GXW-4104 ???
How well does the Grandstream GXW-4104 or (8) work w/Asterisk? I would use a Cisco Switch w/FXO Ports but that would be a little "Pricy" I Can't use a Digium FXO Card, as the asterisk Server is offsite. SuperMicro X7DBE with CentOS4?
I am planning to build a server based on the SuperMicro X7DBE+-O motherboard. This server will have two dual-core Xeon processors and a 3ware 9550SX raid card. Has anyone built a server based on this motherboard? Are there any issues with the smp/dual-core support in CentOS4 that might cause problems? I appreciate any input. I'm just looking to find out about any possible problems before

Quadraphonics
Over the weekend I chanced by the house of a quadraphile friend of mine to check it his SQ setup. For those interested, he has a fairly decent Kenwood linear turntable with what I understand is a rather pricy cartridge manufactured by some company whose name escapes me, hooked into a Fosgate Tate II SQ decoder which is likewise hooked into two X10-D buffers then finally into a Marantz receiver.

"Memory not mapped" when using .C, problem in Mac but not in Linux
Hello, I am aware this may be an obscure problem difficult to advice about, but just in case... I am calling a C function from R on an iMac (almost shining: bought by my institution this year) and gives a "memory not mapped" error. Nevertheless, exactly the same code runs without problem in a powerful computer using SuSE Linux, but also on my laptop of 2007, 32 bits, 2 GB RAM, running

Two Internet connections...
I do some occasional tech work for a cable TV/Internet service provider. They have now offered me free services, including cable Internet. I currently have a DSL service through the telephone company and, for several reasons including the fact that it is really unlimited service with no cap and it comes with newsgroup access (neither of which the cable service has), I'm not really prepared

Vorbis transform description
OK, into the nitty-gritty, albeit a high-level version. If it sounds like I'm glossing important details, you're right. This discusses only the basic DSP; precise coding, framing, sync, etc, will be in another mail. Vorbis is a hybrid transform domain general purpose audio encoder, like MPEG in some respects (it is rooted in much of the same basic theory). For the most part, the

VoIP service through Asterisk?
Greetings. I did some digging with Google, the wiki, and on the archives, but didn't find a recent conclusive answer. If this is answered in the wiki or archives somewhere, please point me to it. I'm in the process of setting up an Asterisk box for home use. I've got a X100P card on the way. I've not decided what analog adapter(s) to get yet. The only phone service to hook up

How to fight with encrypted p2p
Hi I believe that whole question is in topic. Is there any way to recognize ( and then shape ) p2p traffic which is encrypted? Modern p2p clients have this ability moreover some of them have this enabled by default. Now I''m using ipp2p for iptables but as I know this doesn''t recognize encrypted traffic. Thanks in advance. Power burn test
I need a program that will just run everything at max so I can measure the max power used on some systems. My 'Kill a Watt' meter should show up early next week. SO run that CPU at max, using all memory, and keeping the harddrive spinning. I can jsut do pings on the lan card for it to stay awake. I have searched here and on the net and have come back with nothing.

big file server
Hi I plan to set up a big file server, something like motherboard with 4 ide ports and an additional 4 ide daughter card, a PIV proc and 512 or 1024 MB ram, a 100 or 1000 MB NIC, with 6 or 7 200 GB ide HDDs in a sigle box. I don't need lightning performance, just disk space. Of course this would be served by some linux os and samba questions (relative to samba configuration and behaviour) :
