Samba and CNAME
Hello,
we successfully migrated from a Samba 3.x NT Domain to a Samba AD Domain
using Samba 4.7.x.
However, there are still some issues and I hope for your help.
The biggest problem so far follows:
For historical reasons our Samba file servers carry a lot of aliases.
Now that they have become AD Members I did set a lot of CNAMEs in the AD
DNS (using the Windows DNS Tool). Most of the aliases

Samba 2.2.0 bug.
Ill report this as a bug, since I havent had any response to my question about
it on the mailing lists.
I am trying to get at the /smb file system.
My understanding is to do this I MUST go thru the smbsh.
When I try executing smbsh, I see:
[reg@orion bin]$ smbsh
Username: rwclemens
Password:
ERROR: can't get smbw shared lock (Invalid argument)
Looking at the code its not

Samba and CNAME
You can remember this.
If you join a server, that make sure that that servers "hostname" gets an A and PTR record.
The PTR is most important. Now if you creat a CNAME now, through PTR it knows its "original" hostname
And kerberos works, this is how i do all my setups.
As example.
REALM : INTERNAL.EXAMPLE.COM
FQDN : test-dc1.internal.example.com
Hostname: test-dc1

Big problem with roaming profiles
Hello everyone!
I'm facing a big problem with the samba server I just set up:
System: FreeBSD 5.4
Samba ver: 3.0.20 (previuosly 3.0.12)
Client(s): Windows XP Professional
I configured the server to make use of roaming profiles. I was able to copy local profiles to the server, to login and voila - got my desktop. Also after creating a new user, the new profile gets copied to the server,

AW: Big problem with roaming profiles
I had the same problem.
We used samba 3.0.14 and upgraded to 3.0.20
After that profile were not loaded anymore. Th problen you are discribing looks like Windows is loading the local
copy of your profile and after you deleted it it tries to load the profile from samba and fails.
I found out that we had problems with "profile acls = Yes" wich was needed by the earlier samba releases.
