Hello All, I've been studying dovecot for replacing my company's current system and I got a little worried about an aspect of the dovecot's design. I was surprised that dovecot doesn't use prefork for its mail processes, forking a new processes for each new client connection. Talking in the #dovecot channel I was gave a scenario of a system supporting ~40k users with 4 servers just fine. hi all, times ago I had a performance bottleneck issues on DCE/RPC process with a 50k user base. Once in a while CPU jumped to 100% and users weren't able to log in. I decided to reduce the user base to 7k user and everything is fine since then. Does the 'Netlogon prefork' (a new feature of samba-4.10) mitigate the above issue? Is it worth to give a try to raise again the AD users to 50k with some confidence that even if high CPU usage shows again at least users' logon is yet possible? thank you, Francesco

...60MB. The servers have 1-2GB of ram assigned so they start swapping everytime an user logs on. The processes disappear after 1-2 Minutes and the free memory goes back from 50MB to ~1.2GB (on an 2GB server). Is there a way to limit the number of workers so i can avoid swapping? So far i found "prefork backoff increment", "prefork children" and "prefork maximum backoff" variables which are related to the workers but these are not helpful in my case.
