Preface to Agile 2nd edition book available?
So, is there a summary of the changes since the first edition? It would be helpful to see just exactly what in Ruby on Rails has changed before ordering the second edition of the book. Could somebody briefly describe changes to Rails since the version covered in the first edition of the book?

Zork and Asterisk
http://www.boingboing.net/2006/06/05/play_zork_by_phone.html Let me preface this idea with one comment: I don't have the time to do this - I don't even have time to eat these days. But someone out there has the cycles to do this... and it would be very cool. OK, so now Zork is attached to Asterisk, but using the less-than-clear Festival engine. There are beta tests of the LumenVox

making the passphrase prompt more clear
I am going to preface this email by saying that I know very little about OpenSSH internals, the protocol, etc. I do a lot of work with novice programmers, and one step that comes up relatively early is generating SSH keys. In case you haven't done it in a while, the output looks like this: $ ssh-keygen -t rsa Generating public/private rsa key pair. Enter file in which to save the key

Member Server Setup Assistance
Hello Stefan, I learned the hard way about .local. I understand going forward. I do have an issue with the member server. Following along with the wiki I get stuck at 'Testing the Winbind user/group mapping'. Wbinfo works as expected but not #*id DomainUser* #*getent passwd* #*getent group* #*chown DomainUser:DomainGroup file* #*chgrp DomainGroup file* etc. I receive

command= and arbitrary keys...
Hi all, I've asked this question before, but I was never able to fix the problem, and now it's back again and I'd like to try and resolve it. I have an authorized_keys file with about twenty keys, most of which are prefaced with command="/usr/bin/rsync ...". If I put my host key at the top of the authorized_keys file, I can connect without a problem. If it gets put near the bottom, ssh seems to pick an arbitrary key, accepts my passphrase, and starts to run one of the rsync commands. One of the thoughts was...

Anything like associative arrays in R?
Let me preface my question by stressing that I am much less interested in the answer than in learning a way I could have *found the answer myself*. (As helpful as the participants in this list are, I have far too many R-related questions to resolve by posting here, and as I've written before, in my experience the R documentation has not been very helpful, but I remain hopeful that I may have

rsync hangs when accessing through SSH (Leopard OS X)
To preface, I'm running Leopard OSX and am using rsync version 2.6.9 protocol version 29. Whenever I attempt to sync (using rsync obviously) a folder on my local drive to my web server (netfirms.com is my web host) using SSH, the process hangs. I have to force kill it in order to continue using Terminal. I can connect to my server space using SSH just fine by itself, and I ran

filesystem fragmentation stats?
Let me preface this by saying "Yes, I know *nix filesystems don't need to worry about fragmentation". That said, is there a way to check the overall level of fragmentation of a live ext3 filesystem? I know about filefrag, but that's for specific files. And I think e2fsck tells you, but only if you take the filesystem offline for the scan. Is there anything that will give

The Origins of R
In another thread on this list, various wild allegations have been made, relating to the New York Times article on R. I object both to the subject line and to the content of several of the messages, and will not repeat or quote any of that content. It smacks to me of mischief making. Discussion has centered around the following quote from the NY Times article: ?According to them, the

May be any of the following: - A host or network address - A network interface name. - The name of an ipset prefaced with "+" - $FW (for packets originating on the firewall) - A MAC address in Shorewall format - A range of IP addresses (assuming that your kernel and iptables support range match)...

[LLVMdev] Build problems and workarounds with CMake and XCode
...g a separate build of LLVM SVN in XCode using build files created with CMake. Surprisingly, it worked better than Eclipse! The Build_All target completed its build. The install target was another story though. First of all, the commands to install with the terminal command-line needed to be prefaced with sudo to work. Secondly, those commands, when executed from XCode, have no open console to prompt for a password. My workaround for that was to write a small utility in Qt to prompt for a password and return it in stdout. I then set the path of that utility to the SUDO_ASKPASS environment...

Member Server Setup Assistance
Rowland, I set a user with a uid and domain users group with a gid but I'm still unable to view them using 'id'. I do notice a few strange observations. If I go to another user to attempt to assign a uid. I get the default value of 10000. I would expect 2001 given I set the first user with uid 2000. Groups however appear to increment. R and Multi threading
I will preface this message by saying that I am not an R developer and no very little about R...but here is my situation: One of my users has developed a model for analysing commodity prices. At the moment when he runs this model on his daily data set it takes roughly 5 hours to complete. He is using a quad core PC with 2gb of RAM. The R process only uses 1 core..i.e. the overall CPU usage tops

Help recovering zfs filesystem
Let me preface this by admitting that I''m a bonehead. I had a mirrored a zfs filesystem. I needed to use one of the mirrors temporarily so I did a zpool detach to remove the member (call it disk1) leaving disk0 in the pool. However, after the detach I mistakenly wiped disk0. So here is the question. I haven''t touched disk1 yet so the data is hopefully still there. Is there

Using a .img to store a domu...problem with virt-install
Before I begin let me preface by saying I am a beginner so please excuse any foolishness on my part. If you follow this link http://hub.opensolaris.org/bin/view/Community+Group+xen/virtinstall ; you will see that there is supposedly an option for virt-install (--disk) where you can specify what you want to use as the disk for you dom0. For very specific reasons I need to use to have this as a .img

time series and regions of change
Preface: this is a statistical question more than an R question. I have a vector of numbers (assume a regular time series). Within this time series, I have a set of regions of interest (all of different lengths) that I want to compare against a "baseline" (which is known). There is some autocorrelation involved. I would like to determine the "significance" of the

pulseaudio wine
Hi. I can confirm that pulse does indeed work quite well with wine. I've been using oss emulation and padsp together for a long time now, and I've had very few if any problems with it. I simply use Code: aoss padsp wine whatever and it's fine. I don't know if I need to use padsp after aoss after reading this thread, but it's what I've been doing. So pulse does mostly
