Precedence of access parameters
hello all,
im trying to figure out the precedence of security parameters in
smb.conf. i know that settings in specific shares take precedence over
settings in global; 'invalid users' takes precidence over all other
security settings. but others im not so clear on, such as: does 'read
only' take precedence over 'write list'? or do later entries simply
overwrite earlier

[fdo] getting a program between the user and X windows
...r lack of a better word, I'll
call this Emacs process a "super-client".
Some use-cases.
For (a): The user might have macros set up to navigate between
windows and groups using some simple keystrokes. This is something
that can already be done with GNOME of course, so there is some
precident. But there could be more complicated macros, for example,
one could write a macro that would change the text size of various
programs on the fly using the same user-accessible bindings
(e.g. S-KP_plus and S-KP_minus) but different implementations for
the different clients that would be modified....

RFC: Use git am for patchqueue
OK, I've got a basic initial port of the xen package up to 4.4.0. But
before I post that, I wanted to get comments on a new method of
managing the Xen part of the patchqueue. You can find the RFC branch
here:
repo: http://github.com/gwd/sig-virt-xen
branch: out/git-am-patchqueue-RFC-v1
The basic idea is to put as much as possible into a 'git am' file.
This file can easily be

Engine and controller layout confusion
Hi all,
Installed the login_engine which is working. But I''m confused as to how I tell
Rails to use the "/app/views/layout" rhtml files, when partials from the
login_engine are used from "/vendor/plugins/login_engine/app/views/user".
Do I copy login.rhtml to /app/view/mgmt?
(mgmt is a controller name in my app)
Along the same line:
I also have a nil error on the

Quote me on that [puppet best practice]
Another point of disparity between how I see others write Puppet manifests
and the Best Practice that I''ve adopted at my institution is the use of
quoting.
In Puppet, you can get away with not quoting values or references if there
isn''t a special character or a keyword being used (e.g. package { openssh:
...} or User[agirl]).
However, even though that is possible, to make

Some switch hardware can generate the packets directly, negating the need
for a box on every VLAN. Meraki hardware can do it, but you have to go
through the dashboard so automating it isn't currently possible.
Here is some documentation on forwarding WoL on catalyst 3750 switches from

Global Variables?
What is the view of having / not having global variables in Puppet?
Facter variables are global in the sense they are defined in every scope
(whereas ''normal'' variables are only available within the scope they are
defined in).
I could simply add a custom fact for my DoesTheServerNeedASerialConsole
flag to Facter, but I''m not 100% sure I should be having the client

An old ld-linux.so hole
Section I. Overview
Hello,
About a half year ago there was some rumour on bugtraq concerning a buffer
overflow in Linux dynamic linkers, ld.so and ld-linux.so. You can take a look
at the beginning of the thread at http://www.geek-girl.com/bugtraq/1997_3/0089.html
to refresh old memories; I''ll capitalize anyway.
Briefly, there exists a buffer overrun in ld-linux.so versions 1.7.14,

KISS and DRY? Not even close!
Hi all,
After working on my first rails app and having handed over some very
sophisticated coding from a lot of you guys. My app does what I want it to
do, but I''m no where near the end yet, and it seems that the KISS and DRY
objectives already went down the drain.
It could be lack of knowledge, only doing Ruby on (and) Rails for a month, but
I''m stuck on the following:

[RFC] New attempt to a better "btrfs fi df"
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi all,
this is a new attempt to improve the output of the command "btrfs fi df".
The previous attempt received a good reception. However there was no a
general consensus about the wording.
Moreover I still didn''t understand how btrfs was using the disks.
A my first attempt was to develop a new command which shows how the
disks
