how to log only opened files via vfs_modules?
I have share with a lot of scan files with .tif extension. They are grouped in catalogs by years for example 2006 2007 2008 etc. I would like to log open files (open scanned files .tif) by users. But /var/log/messages shows a lot of useless informations!!. For example user fujitsu opened only file 11005_07.tif in windows explorer. In /var/log/messages I can't exactly know which file was

[PATCH nbdkit 0/2] python: Implement pread passing buffer for v2 API.

[PATCH nbdkit 1/2] python: For v2 API, avoid copy by passing a buffer to pread.
It's more efficient if we pass the C buffer directly to Python code. In some cases the Python code will be able to write directly into the C buffer using functions like file.readinto and socket.recv_into. This avoids an extra copy. pread() failures when using mdbox on btrfs
(Note: I am not subscribed to this ML, so please be sure to CC me in replies.) Hello, I see a strange bug when running dovecot under btrfs with a mailbox in mdbox format. At some point, which can take a few minutes or more than a day, dovecot starts logging pread() failures, like so: Apr 02 23:43:42 thetick dovecot[570]: imap(marcec): Error: pread() failed with file

[PATCH] python: Support buffer protocol for pread() result
pread() can return now any object supporting the buffer protocol[1] such as bytearray, bytes, or memoryview. [1] https://docs.python.org/3/c-api/buffer.html --- When the new python tests will be in master we can add some automated tests. For now I tested this manually using the example plugin as is and with these changes:  def pread(h, count, offset):      global disk     return

Slow header fetching rate over nfs mailspool.
We are setting up a Dovecot over a pair of NFS which mirrored with DRBD +Heartbeat, under Debian Etch AMD64 with Kernel 2.6.22-5. The problem was slow header downloading rate. We had tried to use postal to inject 500 emails which are under 5KB each, but when ever we start up Mail.app, Thunderbird or even OE6, the header download rate is terrible slow. Its look like a few sec for just 1

Dovecot 2.3.4 crashing on Solaris 10 - "Panic: output stream is missing error handling"
Hi, I just compiled Dovecot for Solaris 10 and try to run it now. Other than setting a custom port, I did not add custom settings. When I tried running doveconf for the first time, it crashed immediately: doveconf -n # 2.3.4 (): /export/dovecot/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf # OS: SunOS 5.10 sun4u~~ # Hostname: merlin service pop3-login { inet_listener pop3 { port = 1110 } }

performance problem with Samba built with pread/pwrite on HP-UX 1 1.11
Hi everyone, One of my teammates here at HP uncovered this, and I thought it deserved proactive mention on the list: It covers non-HP builds of Samba, so HP CIFS Server (HP's version of Samba bundled with all 11.0 and above OS'es) customers are not directly affected but those of you on the list who might build Samba yourselves on 11.11 could be affected. [PATCH nbdkit v2 1/2] ocaml: Change pread method to avoid leaking heap memory.
In the C part of the OCaml plugin we created a ‘bytes’ [byte array] and passed it to the OCaml pread method. The plugin is supposed to overwrite the array with the returned data. However if (eg. because of a bug) the plugin does not fill the array then whatever was in the OCaml or possibly even the C heap before the allocation is returned to the client, possibly resulting in a leak of sensitive

Hi, I'm using full_audit vfs module and I'm seeing a lot of duplicated messages in log file. Why does it happens ? How can I configure de smb.conf not to log duplicated information ? 1.2.6 Spurious pread()/stream errors/index corruption
Hi, We're currently testing 1.2.x with a move from 1.1.x in mind however with the current 1.2 series we are encountering some serious problems. simply editing the main conf and restarting dovecot gives these errors seemingly randomly: (some previous posts indicated this might be todo with 64bit file offsets so we've played around with disable-largefile and setting _FILE_OFFSET_BITS

Fwd: [PATCH (geoip)] use IO.pread from the io-extra lib if possible
I sent this to the author of geoip a few days ago and haven''t heard back, yet. Since he may be on vacation or busy, somebody may also hit this problem in the mean time, I figured I''d post the patch + git repo I sent him here. Unicorn users: The pread(2)/pwrite(2) syscalls are very useful for making libraries like this one (that rely on an on-disk database) compatible with

Readahead in the nbdkit curl plugin
I'm trying to replicate the features of the qemu curl plugin in nbdkit's curl plugin, in order that we can use nbdkit in virt-v2v to access VMware servers. I've implemented everything else so far [not posted yet] except for readahead. To my surprise actually, qemu's curl driver implements readahead itself. I thought it was a curl feature. I'm not completely clear _how_ it

[PATCH nbdkit v2 0/2] Be careful not to leak server heap memory to the client.
Version 1 was here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2019-April/msg00144.html Version 2 makes a couple of much larger changes: The OCaml patch changes the API of the pread method so it matches what other language bindings are already doing, ie. get the language plugin to return a newly allocated buffer, check it is long enough, copy out the data. The server patch implements a
