Rails 4 and HABTM Checkboxes: Unpermitted parameters error
I have a simple Rails 4 project with two scaffolded models: Practice and Practitioner. I have set these both as habtm and am in the process of adding checkboxes to the Practitioner form so that I can check off the practices that this practitioner belongs to. In the practitioners_controller, I added practice_ids to the practitioner_params permit list, but I am still getting the error...

CCP Believes Australian Government Can Be Bought
...,
visited Australia and questioned the Australian government on certain
issues, including issues related to Falun Gong. On the day before Tang
Jiaxuan arrived in Canberra, Alexander Downer, the Australian Minister for
Foreign Affairs, signed an article banning Falun Gong practitioners from
setting up signs and banners or using loud speakers to protest in front of
the Chinese embassy. Since then Downer has continued to sign similar
articles every month, which has made Tang Jiaxuan very happy.
That same year, China initiated the celebration of the 30-y...

importing NPDB
Does anyone have information about using the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) in R? It's public use data available from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that can be downloaded as a .dat or .por file. I can't even figure out how to open the file in R.

therapies can complete readily that gives reasonable indication of
their state say at referral, assessment, start of therapy, during

call CORE (Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation). How it is used
is up to practitioners as our aim is to persuade therapists that such
data can be of use to them, not just to researchers. There is a
linked therapist completed assessment form and end of therapy form
which provides a therapist rating of initial and final state but,
much more importantly, provides information that...

Reporting Kaplan-Meier / Cox-Proportional Hazard Standard Error, km.coxph.plot, survfit.object
What is the best way to report the standard error when publishing
Kaplan-Meier plots? In my field (Vascular Surgery), practitioners
loosely refer to the "10% error" cutoff as the point at which to stop
drawing the KM curve. I am interpreting this as the *standard error
of the cumulative hazard*, although I'm having a difficult time
finding some guidelines about this (perhaps I am not searching the
correct terms...

deviance in glm
...t;-0:(length(fr)-1)
glm(y~1,poisson)
glm(yy~1,poisson,weight=fr)
I believe the first call to glm gives the correct df, but with real
data, do I have to break up the tabulated data to get it right from R
(or Splus), or I just have to manually calculate the df? Can this be
potentially misleading to practitioners?
Or maybe my thinking was off?
I tried similar things with Bernoulli data and got similar results.

How verbose should NUT be by default?

The opposite opinion is that programs should be quiet until asked to

troubleshooting why the rack went down last week, right!" says the sysadmin

So here is a shout-out to other practitioners: should NUT programs print
their banner and other info (e.g. competing daemon instance was/wasn't

should they indeed be revised to talk less (and then settings and

spatial statistics vs. spatial econometrics
Dear R users,
I am putting together reading and resources lists for spatial statistics and spatial econometrics and am looking for some pointers from more experienced practitioners.
In particular, I find two "camps" in spatial modelling, and am wondering which approach is better suitied to which situation.
The first camp is along the lines of Venables and Ripley's Chapter 14 (and presumably Ripley's book, but I don't have that yet)--spatial trends a...
