Under Linux, i can configure my DSL connection with pppoeconf (debian), without configure my Ethernet interface (eth0), just load kernel module fo ethernet interface, launch pppoeconf here is it. Another way is to configure the DSL interface (eth0 -> ALCATEL Speed Touch Home) with IP:10.0.0.1 so i can telnet or access with an web explorer the modem on 10....

I just bought a new cheap compaq presario sr5010nx and so far have been unable to get my dsl up and running on Centos5. pppoeconf on Ubuntu works just fine -- same machine -- same harddrive. I've run adsl-setup and system-config-network? (separately) numerous times without success. So far I suspect a missing driver but suppose it could also be a detection issue. Suggestions or workarounds appreciated. ----gary

A few days ago I wrote complaining that my new, cheap Compaq Presario (sr5010nx) could not create and maintain a dsl connection using Centos5. I was puzzled that that Ubuntu - with pppoeconf - would work just fine but Centos5 could not be configured. (cento4 -also) Eventually I googled and found a bug report for the r8169 Gigabit ethernet driver. Conclusion - there is a patch in new kernels - I tried the Centos 2.6.18 kernel - again no results - and finally I installed a fc6-2.6...
