frustrating - which ppd for win clients
I have had terrible luck trying to find a ppd that works correctly for both win9x clients and winNT/2000/XP at the same time. The CUPS method is to find one ppd that works for all and I have tried several: those at linuxprinting.org, hp's sourceforge site, vendor winNT ppds (docs suggest these), and vendor win98 ppds. I have tried filtering PJL and not filtering PJL. I have the stock ADOBEPS driver for win9x clients, the cupsdrvr driver for winNT/2000/XP clients and all works as it should except for print quality. Most jobs go through fine, but most is not enough....

Hi, Samba list readers, I am forwarding these mails from one of the Linuxprinting.org lists to you (with the $SUBJECT changed by me), because surely some of you must have been bitten by this too.... This problem is verified on W2K (but not yet for NT/ME/XP/9x). Cheers, Kurt ################# problem description by Elena Khan #################### -------- Original Message -------- To:

Howto install multiple printers using the same driver for Samba on Linux?
Hi, I would like to install multiple printers (about a hundred) to my Linux site. I have created a smb.conf-file with all the printers (and also a printers.conf as I use CUPS for printing). The printers are e.g. HP LJ 4050 and I do not want to install every one the manual way (I use NT for that). When I manually installs a printer e.g. HP LJ 4050 with driver within lj345.exe from microsoft, the

Samba ignores printer options when printing via CUPS
Hi all, I'm having a few problems getting samba to pass along settings for various print options for all of our printers. Printers are set up using PPDs in CUPS, added to samba via the cupsaddsmb command and then added to windows clients via point and print. Unfortunately any print jobs sent from windows appear to completely ignore many of the CUPS settings such as duplex and print tray assignments. If I try printing from Linux to CUPS then all...

cupsaddsmb - problem; once again
Hello, I posted 2 weeks ago this problem and it is currently not working. First thanks a lot for all the hints and helps. In the attached file I have added (hopefully) all informations. To summarize: I want to setup a print server, which allows the user to download the necessary files for new printers. Installed are (on top of suse 7.1) samba 2.2.6_pre2 and cups 1.1.15_1. Installed the printers,

After 4.6 update: CUPS (via Samba): "'/printers/printers' no good!"
...bs submitted. On my network the CUPS-handled printer is exported from Samba. Given that the Samba RPMs were among those upgraded, I have to wonder what printing-related changes might have occurred. The hal-cups-utils was also updated in the course of the upgrade. I also notice that CUP's ppds.dat and cupsd.conf files have modification timestamp from around the time I did the upgrade. Any advice as to how to fix whatever was broken in the course of doing the upgrade? Thanks.

Nb of copies don't appear in page_log file
Hi I am currently using Samba 3.0.11 and Cups 1.1.23 with Windows PostScript drivers and manufacturer PPDs on WinXP clients. When I print multiples copies of a document from a Windows XP box, the number of copies appearing in the Cups "page_log" file always takes the "1" value but the printer prints the correct number of copies. When I do the same on Linux (with the lpr command),...

cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all, I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use. I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot find the PPD file... where is

samba.
Hi. I run SuSE 8.1 and samba here. On the linux machine I have a HP1100A on the parallel port, and a HP-DJ895Cxi on a USB port. I can print ok from this linux machine to both printers. From my laptop, that runs WIN98, I can print to the HP1100A printer. I cannot print to the DJ895Cxi, even if its set up as a network printer. I could do this with SuSE dists up to 8.0. From 8.1 printers are

I have the above printer but have not been able to resolve issues with the printing quality in CentOS 7. The test page prints fine but when I print PDF-documents, most recently using Chinese fonts, it is lacking and the pages very hard to read. The settings in the Mate Cups configuration panel are fine and set to 600 dpi, the settings in the printer menu are all OK yet it prints more like maybe

Printer settings reset problems
Hi, I am working on a print server project where we have ran into a big showstopper. The print server works in a very mixed environment with clients running for example Linux, Windows NT4, Windows 2000, VMS, different Solaris versions and other Unix dialects. The server runs CUPS for printer spooling and Samba to serve the Windows machines. It's the Windows machines that has caused most

No joy adding a CUPS printer
I'm trying to change my Samba setup from LPD to CUPS, with little success. I've followed [and re-followed] the setup documentation from CUPS and I just can't get Samba to recognize my printer. The catch is - it sort of recognizes it :-( First I added these lines to my smb.conf: ========================================= [global] load printers = yes printing = cups printcap name =
