Printing to a network printer and installing PPD files
I hope I am not asking an obvious question. I have googled and looked in the obvious places, but I may have missed it. Anyway my question is two fold. How do I configure for a network printer in Wine and how to I install the printer specific ppd file? I am running 0.9.60, which I installed this week, on Mepis (Debian based with KDE and cups). I can print from PageMaker, but get a warning that wine is using a generic ppd file. I have found instructions for printers with ppd files for Crossover Office, but the directories don't seem to...

I'm running debian sarge and have installed wine with "apt-get" (wine 20041201). Afterwards I configurated it with winetools. Everything went fine. I also installed the Internet Explorer and Office 2000. There were no problems during the installation and IE and Office run without problems besides printing. There I get error messages like "no printer installed". Is

Re: glitch - win98 and driver download
This was the answer to a question posed on the Samba list almost a year ago. The following regarding Windows 98 printer names seemed to get lost: In windows 98, printer name: ---------------------------- > 13 characters: printer offline <= 13 but > 8: ppd doesn't download, can print with adobe drivers <= 8: full functionality I also tried an 8.3 printername: testtest.tst, which resulted in a ppd of testtest.tst.ppd. Same problems as before...no download but limited printing with adobe drivers. Thank you. -Jeff On Thu, 2003-04-17 at 12...

Printing with CUPS and PDF
Trying to get one Samba server to serve several printers through CUPS and host a virtual PDF "printer" at the same time. I've gotten them working separately, but not together, and I think I know why. In the smb.conf man page under "print command": "With printing = cups, and if SAMBA is compiled against libcups, any manually set print command will be ignored."

Specific PPD Files are not downloaded on an automatic installation
Hi there! I am trying to get the samba cups integration to work. After some fiddling I can now install the Adobe Postscript Printer driver remotely. Unfortunately Windows 98 clients (I haven't checked with NT,2000,XP yet) only get the default ppd. What is the proper naming convention for the ppd files? Currently we use the printer DNS name pr100, pr101, pr102, ... Should the ppd files be named according to the Name of the Printer within the ppd file: hplaserjet or whatever? TIM
