PXELINUX and PowerSave Mode ...
We have a lot of diskless Linux clients which are booting via PXELINUX or ETHERBOOT. The problem is that they are on for 24 hours and APM PowerSave mode works for ETHERBOOT only. But in the future we want to use PXELINUX only, which seems to have no features for APM or ACPI PowerSave included. Would it be possible to integrate such features in PXELINUX or is there a way to boot a special image

Xen 4.2.0 - CPU Frequency Scaling
Hi, This has been a problem since the xen-acpi-processor code was added to the kernel source. I wasn''t sure if the problem I was seeing was related to the old version (4.1.2) of Xen that I was using but now I''m on 4.2.0 and it still exists I thought I would check if I have a misconfiguration or if I have discovered a problem. My system is a dual AMD Opteron(tm) Processor

ext3 and powersave
Hi, This is probably a silly question, but, does ext3 allow ide drives to go int powersave mode? Thinking of upgrading my home linux router to ext3, but I'm wondering if it'll keep my drives awake all the time. I have ext3 running on several servers at work, and some of my workstations too. I can't tell for certain if the drives on my workstations go into powersave now that i've

centos 7: trouble setting the ondemand governor
Hi, The default "stop" action for the cpupower service seems to be to set the ondemand governor, but this fails. I can reproduce the issue directly by running cpupower: $ sudo cpupower frequency-set -g ondemand Setting cpu: 0 Error setting new values. Common errors: - Do you have proper administration rights? (super-user?) - Is the governor you requested available and modprobed? -

power management / tuned following external power source
hi, twice in the last week I've been caught out where the laptop was running tuned with 'throughput-performance' profile on the work table, and I walked away, carried on working - and had the battery run flat in just over an hour. Compare this with tuned running the 'powersave' profile - will usually take the battery through to 3hrs+ - and if i just totally turn down the

Monitor not put in powersaving mode
I notice that CentOS 5 only blanks out my screen, but doesn't set it to powersaving mode (the power LED stays blue instead of going yellow). I think I saw this on CentOS 4 as well, but I had a CentOS 4 console machine only for a short time back then and after that only remotely used ones. Now I have one fully running workstation with X under CentOS 5 and would like to fix that. This also

gdmgreeter and powersave
I have a bunch of workstations running CentOS 5.2. When the gdmgreeter is displayed, the monitor never blanks or powers off even though I have DPMS enabled in xorg.conf. When a user is logged in it works as expected. I Googled around and saw some references to this happening, but have not found a solution. Am I missing something obvious? The display adapters are Radeon 2400X's and use

Disable Kernel Screen Blanker
Hey Y'all, I'm trying to turn off the kernel screen blanker that shuts off the video after about 10 minutes of inactivity at the keyboard. After extensive googling I've found two ways to *NOT* do it. In my home .xinitrc setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0 xset s off In /etc/rc.local /usr/bin/setterm -powersave off -blank 0 I've tried both to no effect. Of course

[Discussion] User controls for PowerManagement
With some progress in PowerManagement support (there's a patch nearly done for reading the P-tables, written mostly by xexaxo, derived from thunderbirds nvclock, with 0x40 adjustments from myself) in my opinion it's time to think about the user aspect of this. My personal idea for GPU scaling was similar to that of CPU scaling in appearance eventually. When you look at the cpufreq-applet

some questions about tuned ...
Hi, what is the point of running tuned as a daemon when dynamic tuning is disabled? What is the point of enabling dynamic tuning, especially when using the supplied profiles like throughput-performance? I haven't customized those by specifying any thresholds, and I don't see any point in doing things like dynamically changing disk schedulers or CPU governors depending on something

Notice: Check your tuned settings for a performance boost.
Last week we noticed that the default scheduler isn't being set properly in CentOS 7. I haven't checked this for CentOS 6, but it might be worth exploring. The TL;DR is unless you're running CentOS 7 on a laptop or as a virtual guest, you should probably run 'tuned-adm profile throughput-performance' I wrote up the full details here ->

dual heads, Radeon
Dell OptiPlex 980, Radeon HD 4550 xorg figures it should use the r500 driver. I start with no /etc/X11/xorg.conf. It comes up, mirroring. I use the gnome applet - the same thing, btw, with system-config-display - tell it to use dual head, and spanning desktops. Exit X. Restart, and the second monitor goes into powersave mode. Try to exit X, either via logout, or

Samba-delay (timeout??)
I have an infrequent problem that sometimes when I'm accessing files on my samba-server, it happens from time to time that the client computer appears to hang for a limited time. Say 20-30 seconds. It doesn't matter if it is a small file .TXT file or a large DivX movie. This has happened to me with different versions of samba, and I first suspected that it might be power-saving on the
