I have some problem trying to find previous post, or solutions to common problems, advice to newbies etc in this mailing list. There is no a forum-like tool to search thru the posts by keyworks for example. Please correct me if I am wrong. That is why I will post my questions here: 1- Transcoding: is this when

Backup PC or other solution
I list, I'm new with backup ops and I'm searching a good system to accomplish this work. I know that on centos there are bacula and amanda but they are too tape oriented. Another is that they are very powerfull but more complex. I need a solution for small office for disk storage and I found Backup PC. Many people say that it is great for small stuff and for great number of data. What do

Generating random geographical coordinates
Dear all, I have two coordinates vectors, say X and Y of length n. I want to generate for each couple of coordinates X1,Y1 X2,Y2 X3,Y3....Xn,Yn a random coordinate which is located in a square define as X +/- dx and Y +/- dy. I saw the runif function which can generate for just one value at a time what I want : runif(1, X - dx, X + dx) for X and runif(1, Y - dy, Y + dy) for Y. I would like

PDA as source client
Has anybody used anything other than a PC as a source for icecast2? Are PDAs powerfull enough? I know vorbis encoding takes a signifigant amount of CPU power, but I've been able to do it on 4 year old PCs. Does a 206MHz Intel StrongARM 32-bit RISC processor have as much power as a 200 Mhz Pentium? I'm thinking Compaq iPaq, running Familiar Linux and IceS, would make a nice portable

Speex hardware requirements?
Hi evrybody, I wonder witch hardware requirements it is for speex decoding (especially 16kHz mono sound). Could it be possible to use the Gameboy advance hardware if you added a FPU? or dose it need to be more powerfull? ----------------------------- Reclaim Your Inbox! http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/ Rediscover The Web! http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Using huge datasets
Hi, Here is what I want to do. I have a dataset containing 4.2 *million* rows and about 10 columns and want to do some statistics with it, mainly using it as a prediction set for GAM and GLM models. I tried to load it from a csv file but, after filling up memory and part of the swap (1 gb each), I get a segmentation fault and R stops. I use R under Linux. Here are my questions : 1) Has

HTML Parsing libraries
Hi, What is the best way to parse HTML? Or is there a simple way to convert a table to an array? I tried beautiful_soup and the built-in htmltools, but have trouble getting them to run. Any pointers? Thanks, Hari -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Speex hardware requirements?
Compared to todays PDAs the GameBoy Advance (GBA) is low spec. it has a 16MHz ARM7tdmi RISC processor. 32-bit but it can handle 16-bit instructions in a mode that resembles "bytecode" (a 32-bit instruction is executed using a 16-bit instruction). I got a feeling that the GBA would need a FPU. For more information on the GBA visit this info page:

[LLVMdev] MIPS backend and VFPU
I noticed that the MIPS backend was developed as a backend for the generic MIPS processor and also as a Google SoC targeting the Allegrex CPU, however there is no support for vector instructions. I see that vectorization is a very powerfull weapon from LLVM when compared to other compilers but in the case of the Allegrex CPU it is not supported. Are there any plans in the near future to add

Speex for PDA
hello, I have recently compiled speexenc for WinCE/StrongARM SA-1110-processor. It seems to run with no errors, however the encoding time is very slow - 10 seconds of speech takes aprox 3 minutes to encode. Even though the target architecture is significantly less powerfull than a standard PC, I am trying to figure out why it is this slow. Does speex use floatpoint calculations? The input raw

RFC: python-shout-python rpm package
Hi, I adapted Sebastien Corot's SuSe SRPM to Fedora Core 4: ftp://infogerance.locataire-serveur.info/fedora/SRPMS/python-shout-python-0.2-2.src.rpm May be some has comments on it. strptime command in R
Hello all: I have a column of times in format x "16:30:00" "16:30:03" "16:59:00" etc which I need to convert into time variables and do some operations on. I do the command y<-strptime(x,"%H:%M:%S"). This executes almost istantly (for a column x of length 1000 in Windows, but in Unix, where I run my production jobs, this takes over 4 minutes. I

RE: AVM A1 (OLD) CARD
I have an old A1 ISDN card that we used to use in the mid 1990's for the delivery of data to our ISP I have seen some users have been using them, with respect to doing web searches. Can someone please let me know what drivers I require to use this card under debian and with asterix, and what the limitations are of using this card. I dont want to make calls but do inbound using it. The

Where discuss VFS issues
What's the right list to discuss all sorts of VFS questions, like api documentation, implementation issues, examples, configure/make integration. I think this interface has a (very) lot of potetials. It could even become as powerfull as the module concept of apache, and I think I've some usefull ideas. cu Birk
