upsmon.conf::POWERDOWNFLAG
?Hello everybody, I've just noticed that POWERDOWNFLAG defaults to /etc/killpower in upsmon.conf. I believe that such files belong to the /run sub-tree. Not only because it's not a config. file; mainly because many embedded systems actually have most of the FS read-only and have only the /tmp, /var and /run writable... Is there any particular rea...

POWERDOWNFLAG Confusion..
Greetings.. Maybe someone could clear up a small confusion or uncertainty... Reading the various files I got the first impression that the file (??) that holds POWERDOWNFLAG variable would be either located in the /etc/killpower directory or (using the info from the RedHat scripts directory) the /etc/sysconfig.. but further reading and a bit of guess and by golly.. I'm now thinking that the ups file is pointing to a file called "killpower" i...

Low Battery event not occurring
...ry.charge.low" is "10". My current "battery.charge" is "6". However, when I type "upsc myups at localhost ups.status", it only shows OB and DISCHRG, not LB. If I understand the NUT process correctly, it looks for this LB status in order to create the POWERDOWNFLAG. "In upsmon.conf, add a POWERDOWNFLAG directive with a filename. upsmon will create this file when the UPS needs to be powered off during a power failure when low battery is reached." Please let me know if you need me to provide any further information. Again, any help is greatly appr...

I am a bit confused
I have read the shutdown.txt in the docs directory. It says that after upsmon calls the shutdown command init takes over. This I understand clearly. However, step 8. 8. init then runs your shutdown script. This checks for the POWERDOWNFLAG, finds it, and tells the UPS driver(s) to power off the load. Since init is shuting down the system, why is the POWERDOWNFLAG needed? Why do I need a shutdown script? init is shuting down everything! Durwin F. WinNUT Client Logs
...y comments here? I am not a WinNUT user, but in general NUT clients do not produce their own log files. If you want more detail, you have to set the debug options and then look in your system logs. Upsmon.conf MONITOR ups at pfsense 1 <username> <password> slave ... POWERDOWNFLAG /usr/local/ups/etc/killpower My understanding is that when upsmon in a client receives FSD, it sets the POWERDOWNFLAG. You have specified a Unix/Linux style address for a Windows box? How verbose should NUT be by default?
...tem has only one copy of nut. And -D can print it to find out; it will be the same after a failure or before. "upsmon -K", documented to return 0/1, should not print by default version that there is no pidfile that a upsmon daemon is or is not running the location of POWERDOWNFLAG and even that POWERDOWNFLAG is not set I'm ok with printing one line to stdout that it is set, because that's a big deal. I'm -1 but not a big deal on printing that is NOT set, because that's normal. I think it would be good to stat the dir containing POWERDOWNFLAG and...

WinNUT Client Logs
How do you setup the debug options in WinNUT? Correct, it sets the POWERDOWNFLAG when it receives an FSD but only if it acts as a NUT MASTER (since the UPS is connected locally to the NUT MASTER and can issue a killpower). This is the default value and I did not care to change it because it won't be use on my Windows machine anyway as it is working as a NUT SLAVE. Thank yo...

...erial number, but in this case, I don't think we have too many other reports of this hardware to go on. The closest ones seem to be: http://networkupstools.org/ddl/Tripp_Lite/SMART2200RMXL2U.html > If I understand the NUT process correctly, it looks for this LB status in order to create the POWERDOWNFLAG. "In upsmon.conf, add a POWERDOWNFLAG directive with a filename. upsmon will create this file when the UPS needs to be powered off during a power failure when low battery is reached." That is correct. You can also configure NUT drivers to ignore the UPS's LB flag and synthesize it f...

How verbose should NUT be by default?
Hello all, During discussion of https://github.com/networkupstools/nut/issues/1782 me and Greg uncovered a diametral difference of opinion about the verbosity of NUT programs in general, and of `upsmon -K` (checking for POWERDOWNFLAG during shutdown integration) in particular. To me as a sysadmin type often (in the past at least) having to troubleshoot the tails and ends of systems' untimely (or unclean) demise, all info about it feels like useful clues. And often is. Also NUT dealing in the business of cutting power...

Start up script fails
...re that even knowing that would have helped, but it is a clue for anyone else that comes across this thread. I am up and talking to the UPS, so it should just be a matter of getting my shutdown stuff working at this point. One last question if you don't mind. I noticed the "default" POWERDOWNFLAG is set to /etc/killpower, but I changed that to /tmp and modified my umountroot script to mount it read only too, because I know it gets wiped on reboot. Is there anything that removes /etc/killpower on reboot, or a more compelling reason to put killpower in /etc, other than it is usually not on a...

CyberPower USB UPS fails to cut power during shutdown
...upsdrvctl shutdown, the UPS cuts power immediately. However, if I simulate a shutdown with upsmon -c fsd, the UPS fails to cut power. The normal halt procedure completes, and my machine turns itself off and stays off. The relevant part of the shutdown script is: flag=`sed -ne 's#^ *POWERDOWNFLAG *\(.*\)$#\1#p' /etc/nut/upsmon.conf` wait_delay=`sed -ne 's#^ *POWEROFF_WAIT= *\(.*\)$#\1#p' /etc/default/nut` if [ -f "$flag" ] ; then if $upsmon -K >/dev/null 2>&1 ; then log_action_msg "Shutting down the UPS ..." # log_ac...
