Virus scan + removal on a mdbox mail storage
Hi, I need advice on how virus scan and removal can be done on a _mdbox_ mail storage? On a maildir storage the virus scanner (e.g. clamav etc.) can detect and remove a email that is infected, since every email and attachment are stored in separate files. But in mdbox the emails and attachments are compressed together in one ore more mdbox-files ... I am anxious to convert my mail

How to serve a subset of IMAP folders for hand held devices.
...thought a good place to write up my method would be in the HowTo section of the Dovecot Wiki. Is that a good idea? Can I request an account to edit the Wiki, or should I send a draft text to an editor? Are there any Dovecot experts here who can review my methods and suggest improvements? -- David Pottage

Sieve to strip html from multipart messages
Is is possible (I?m sure it is, so how) to strip multipart messages that are HTML and text of the HTML portion and leave the bare text message without also stripping other parts (like images or attached files). Or also to take messages that are only HTML and strip the HTML and replace it with a plain text version? I used to do this a long time ago with procmail and lynx, but it was never

So my advice is to do the conversion to maildir now, then scan all the files as a one off, and going forward you should configure your email transport daemon (postfix, exim etc) to pass incoming (and possibly outgoing) email through clamav. -- David Pottage

Exclude dovecot-uidlist files from a Maildir backup ?
...p, it completes much faster and uploads far less. Would this be a reasonable policy? My backup is mainly there against unlikely but severe events such as complete hard drive failure, so if I ever had to use it, I would not mind wating for my email client to re-download all my emails. -- David Pottage

Compress by zlib only selected Maildir folders
Hello, is it possible to compress by zlib only selected folders? My e-mail accounts have archive folder and this folder contains old comunications with my customers and this I use very rare, so I want to compress them by zlib to save space. Is this possible? Thanks, Filip Bartmann

Modern smartphone IMAP clients can easily have that many sessions open, if the user is monitoring many folders for new mail, so when the user attempts to log in with another device they cannot because they have hit the limit. -- David Pottage

“Message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted” iOS
Have updated our mail server and are now running Dovecot 2.3.4. Things are mostly working OK, but occasionally I have users on latest iOS getting this message: ?this message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted. Ask the sender to send it again using a different format or email program. multipart/alternative? The email seems to open OK on the macOS version of Mail.app. Also

NFS vs Replication
Hello list, I built an email system using a proxy / director pair (IMAP, POP3, LMTP) and a backend pair. To have an HA system, I would like to understand if it is better to use an NFS export or replication to save emails and index files NFS is provided by a NAS (in HA), while for replication I would use the local backend disks Which of the two systems is more reliable? Are there any drawbacks
