Samba 2.2.8 doesn't allow to write to group share
...beral rules) share that I can get to with no problems at all. I can even double-click the "branch99test" share, and see the file that appears (a single text file created from the Mandrake box; even my Windows box can open it). But I can't write (create) in the directory. Can anyone postulate as to why? I don't mind if kstovall (not a member of "branch99") can't do it, but I'm in that group, and I can't do it from an XP or 98 box joined to the domain. Thanks! Eric

VS2005 build stability?
Please note that I'm not advocating CMake as a replacement for autotools or another build environment - what I was postulating is that CMake may provide an easier to maintain option for generation of Visual Studio project and solution files, which unless I'm mistaken the GNU autotools suite does not support. Used in this manner they provide the ability to generate these for at least VS2003 and VS2005 from a m...

Questions about attacks on Xen
...now that Dom0 can not directly access the Xen hypervisor code in memory (except in the case of attacks using DMA on IOMMU-less systems). But what about Dom0 accessing DomU memory once the domain is running? For isolation, our operating system encrypts all network traffic and disk I/O. We have also postulated that we could do the same of keyboard/display I/O. We can use vTPM to ensure trusted initialization. Are there other attack vectors other than Dom0 handling memory destined to or from an I/O device? Could Dom0 violate our DomU by directly accessing its memory? Are there any facilities in Xen 4...

Samba AD/DC crashed again, third time in as many months
...k this is hardware, or the OS configuration under it, combined with unexpected shutdown or some other corruption vector. We have at this stage 10,000 or more domains running Samba4, and this is only the second I've heard of with this kind of symptom.  The first I blamed on a use of DRDB that I postulated was not preserving 'write barriers' (that is, the thing that makes fsync() work) and a poweroff, but I didn't really have any proof. You do need to run a second DC, as well as run tools like memcheck on this DC.  Make sure you regularly run the backup script, so you can work out wh...

Theil test help
Hello, I have a series of questions that I hope will be simple to answer. Basically I would like a code to do the following so that I can compute the distribution free test for the slope of a postulated regression line (Theil test). As I am testing the null hypothesis that slope = 0 against the general alternative the slope does not equal 0, it should be pretty straight-forward. I have a data frame as follows; index Score Mean_Temp SD_Mean_Temp i 10 3.7 0.65 i+1 12 7.5 2.11 i+2 6 10.3 0...

Win2k auth on named share fails on mixed Windows network.
...that the Kerberos libraries are not permitting the encryption type, either because it is not available in the libraries or because it's restricted by the config. I believe the encryption type to be available in these libraries, so my guess is that it is not being permitted for some reason. I postulate that it's considered a weak type, so I propose to permit weak encryption types. Questions: 1. If for example I were to make a change in /etc/krb5.conf to permit less secure encryption types by setting [libdefaults] allow_weak_crypto = 1 do I have to restart Samba for the change to ta...

feature request: modify getrrsetbyname() to use libunbound
...which is "we publish SSHFP records; use VerifyHostKeyDNS; set up a local caching resolver to avoid MITM attacks". That said, it seems rather cumbersome to have users install a local caching resolver in order to secure the last mile of DNS queries (who trusts their ISP, after all), so we postulated whether it would be possible to modify openssh such that the ssh client could perform the queries itself. It turns out that this is quite straightforward to implement (see preliminary patch, attached), entirely because you have have well encapsulated the DNS query code. Since we are quite con...

I have this in my sites.pp, which I took from this list sometime ago, to save firewall rules to disk when they''re changed: # Always persist firewall rules if ($kernel == ''Linux'') { exec { ''persist-firewall'':

...elapsed since the last use of code to a suitably high number--probably 1 + the total number of turns elapsed in the conversation--which would let me include all statements (including those that introduce codes into a conversation) but also would inflate the influence of prior use on current use by postulating a nonexistent use "just before" the conversation. I hope this is clear enough to be informative. I'd be interested in any thoughts folks might have. stepwise with F statistics
Hi Community R I need to make a stepwise using F statistics as a criteria to choose variables.I have 3 independant variables and one dependant variable, and I need to choose the best model fitting to my data using F statistics. The problem is I haven't found any package to do such operation. I have found packages to choose variables using significance level like "stepback" from
