vsftpd: users can delete files they don't possess
FTP users can delete files in their home directory they don't possess (including files belonging to root:root!) with vsftpd. I have reproduced that with vsftpd 1.1 on Suse and 2.0 on CentOS. I don't think this should happen at all. I can't see that the documentation at http://vsftpd.beasts.org/vsftpd_conf.html mentions this problem at all. How can I stop this? Kai

'rights' usage of 'Domain Admins' - User can't take possession of file on server...should it work?
I'm a little fuzzy about this, but I can't think of why samba would provide rights if it wasn't for this case. As mentioned in the HOWTO, domain admins, on a samba host, have no special rights other than what are assigned using "net rpc rights". So I assigned the "TakeOwnerShip" right to that group. I placed myself in that group. Then on a workstation, I log in

Another Fedora decision
...it is not a result of compromise (and yes, fight one's > wishful thinking!). Logically ? 1. to change the permissions on shadow from -rw-x------ or from ---------- to -rw-r--r-- requires root permissions ? 2. if so, then what is the advantage of changing those permissions when the entity possessing root authority can already read shadow - that entity requires neither group nor user permissions to read shadow. -- Regards, Paul. rob var/cov + LAD regression
Hi, after looking around I was not able to get info about these two questions: 1. Is there a function to have a "jackknifed corrected var/cov estimate" (as described in MacKinnon and White 1985) in a standard OLS regression? 2. Does R possess a LAD (Least Absolute Deviation) regression function? Any help? Thanks -- ======================================================== Angelo

Why doesn't R have a float data type?
This is strictly a curiosity question. I am aware the R doesn't possess a float data type. I also don't mean to request that such functionality be implemented as I'm sure it would require a large amount of work with potential back compatibility conflicts. But I wanted to know why R has never had a float data type available? Regards, Charles [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

MD4 Engine Bug?
Hello, While porting rsync 2.5.6 to .NET (C#), I noticed that the MD4 engine in the original source code in my possession behaved differently from the C# MD4 engine that I was using in my own code. While testing the file transfer between my program and a compiled version of rsync 2.5.6, I noticed that the file checksums generated for the entire file to detect corruption on the link were

Problems with OS X 10.11.5
I'm actually seeing from the Apple Support Communities thread that this might all be due to the fact that OS X 10.11.5 clients are requiring SMB signing. Curiously, I noticed that my SMB4.conf file on my FreeBSD server didn't even possess a `client signing` flag. Might all this be resolved if I just add a `client signing = auto` flag for the server's SMB4.conf file, so that the OS X

How can we compare two vectors?
x=c(5, 8, 28, 29, 30) y=c(5, 8, 28, 29, 31) How can we compare these two vectors, whether each element is exactly matched with the elements in the other vector ? How can we get the non matched elements from both the vectors? Can anyone help? ________________________________ Notice: The information contained in this electronic mail message is intended only for the use of the designated recipient.

Gini with frequencies
Hi there, I am trying to compute Gini coefficients for vectors containing income classes. The data I possess look loke this: yit <- c(135, 164, 234, 369) piit <- c(367, 884, 341, 74 ) where yit is the vector of income classes, and fit is the vector of associated frequencies.(This data is from Rustichini, Ichino and Checci (Journal of Public Economics, 1999) ). Reloading smbd session process group membership cache
So the problem is that smbd session processes will forever cache the POSIX group memberships that the logged in user possesses. Consider a following example: *smb.conf: * [share_a] path = /mnt/a valid users = dude *ls -l /mnt:* drwxrwxr-x root group_a a */etc/group:* group_a:*:2000:user Now, a client mounts *share_a* as *dude* and has R/W access to it via his *group_a* group membership. Then,
