Positron as a tool
This is just an FYI based on a news item I saw tonight. There have been discussions on what editors or environments people can use when working with R and I personally have mostly been using versions of RSTUDIO and lately for both R and python. As often noted, RSTUDIO is a product of a company, currently still largely free and they have some tweaks that can cause issues. The news article

Positron as a tool
Hi Avi, I am not sure that the R-help mailing list is a suitable channel for advertising R-related tools... But given you mentioned Positron (https://github.com/posit-dev/positron), which is based on VSCode, it is worth calling out that a free, open-source, community-maintained, very feature rich R extension (https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/languages/r) already exists in VS Code for

Positron as a tool
Just to be clear, Denis, I am not in any way associated with anybody or anything and just read about it on a news feed not from POSIT directly. I am aware it is based on existing functionality and have used possibly similar editors for other languages. I did try possibly one touted by Microsoft years ago (perhaps what you are referring to) but felt no need to keep using it at the time. What I am

R related tools - GUI
For years I used Deducer (Package Deducer) developed by Ian Fellows.? This is still available and partially remains mostly functional.? He was working on a new GUI years ago but appears no longer to be in the pipeline I think replaced by R-Studio. > Send R-help mailing list submissions to > r-help at r-project.org > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit >

X448 Key Exchange

What I like about it is that it offers ~224 bit security level, whereas X25519 offers ~128 bits (according to RFC7748). Hence, pairing X448 with AES256 would provide a full chain of security in the ~224 bit

CISA et al: "Exploring Memory Safety in Critical Open Source Projects"
Has anyone done any initial research into how much effort it would take to port OpenSSH to Rust? If not, I might find that interesting to start. (Mind you, this would be just to get a handle on the project, not do the full porting work--unless it somehow turns out to be very easy.) - Joe -- Joseph S. Fitting a batch of histograms
Hello. I've several histograms accumulated all together in one time. shared voicemail box
Hi list, I'm wondering if there's a way for multiple users to share the same voicemail box and have their BLF flashing when voicemail comes, i.e. in a home phone system where there's a general vm for everyone. I'm using couple Grandstream GXP2020. Any suggestions? Kelvin Chan | Positronics Ent. Product Development | | unit 272

hardware that can accomondate 2 TDM24
Hi guys, I'm building a server that need to host 2 digium TDM24 cards. I know any 3U server with 2 PCI-E slots would do. Since I do prefer supermicro server, but getting one configured is pretty darn hard. Any suggestions here? Cheers, Kelvin Chan | Positronics Ent. X448 Key Exchange (RFC 8731)
Hi all, Back in September 2018, I started a thread about implementing the X448 key exchange (see https://lists.mindrot.org/pipermail/openssh-unix-dev/2018-September/037183.html). In February 2020, RFC 8731 (formally specifying X448 in SSH) has been finalized: https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc8731.txt. I thought I'd start this conversation up again to see if the interest level has

An Analysis of the DHEat DoS Against SSH in Cloud Environments
A few days ago, I published an article analyzing the susceptibility of the DHEat denial-of-service vulnerability against default OpenSSH settings in cloud environments. I thought those on this list might be interested: https://www.positronsecurity.com/blog/2024-04-23-an-analysis-of-dheat-dos-against-ssh-in-cloud-environments/ A short summary: the default MaxStartup setting is fully ineffective in fixing the problem in low-latency network conditions; it is very easy to force a target to hit 100% CPU utilization in that case. Furtherm...

conference and wifi phones
Hi guys, I'm looking for a affordable conference phone and a wifi phone that has a cradle. Polycom seems to make pretty nice conf phones but the price is a bit crazy for us. I saw the recommendation with ATA plus an analog Polycom phone but I do prefer a SIP phone. All because it's just too difficult to pull a phone cable into the current conference room. Is there any cheaper SIP

xiph.org irc channels moving
Everybody, We're shutting down irc.xiph.org, which has hosted our official development and support IRC channels for the past couple of years. The main channels (#vorbis, #icecast, #theora, #positron) have moved to irc.freenode.net; please go there with your support or development questions. We'd also like to take this opportunity to refocus the channels on development and support.
