WINE on FreeBSD: StarCraft 'stuttering'
Hello list and FreeBSD maintainer,
I -really- appreciate the fact that the major threading issues with FreeBSD
and WINE have been resolved. I'd hate to see FreeBSD lose an application with
such great potential.
Anyway, I've recently taken an interest in WINE for use with gaming on FreeBSD
(once again). I managed to get StarCraft installed with it and running.
However, there's a

Dovecot, IMAP, and mutt
Hello,
I'm running FreeBSD 6.0 release on x86 hardware and am using mutt
version 1.5.11. Not running dovecot on/over NFS or anything, just the
standard UFS2 filesystem. I'm also using SSL for IMAP.
Since dovecot 1.0.b8, I've had to instruct mutt to do things twice
(such as deleting) before the changes will actually occur. I've
confirmed that this does not happen with dovecot

R-help
Hi list,
When I type my question in R console using ? sign (example: ?par, when I
want to query for par), the following error message popps up:
Error in
print.help_files_with_topic("C:/PROGRA~1/R/R-24~1.1/library/maps/chm/map") :
CHM file could not be displayed
I appreciate if any body comes back to me with the solution.

Synology shares not accessible...
Hi Rowland,
good point...
That seems to be the only SID which popps up in the logs from the
Synology device. I found no other.
I'm just looking at the same log on my working machines if this is
popping up there, too.
At least you gave me good hints, how I can answer their request. Thanks
for that...
Regards
Ingo

WINE on FreeBSD: Dark 3D applications
Hello WINE users,
From time to time I use WINE to play games such as Max Payne and recently
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. However, for some reason both games (or any 3D
game, I imagine) appear to be very dark. The in-game brightness either has
very little noticeable effect or none at all.
I'm running FreeBSD 6.0-BETA4 and WINE 20050830 with an nVidia GeForce 4 MX
440 and the official

Slow Mapped Drive
I have a couple Samba servers running on Solaris (9 4/04) & FreeBSD
(5.21) that work well (can't remember which version of Samba). I have a
Windows XP Pro box with SP2 on my client. I've set up a Samba server on
a Mandrake 9 Linux box (I think it's Samba 3.04) and when I browse to it
via Network Neighborhood, I get right in.
If I map a drive from my XP client, every time I

mp3 inventors were awarded with "German Future Price"
I found that article:
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/data/jk-20.10.00-000/
and here's the official homepage of the price:

It's all in German, so I give a summary here:

The poisoned NUL byte
Summary: you can exploit a single-byte buffer overrun to gain root privs.
When, half a day after releasing version 2.2beta37 of the Linux nfs server,
I received a message from Larry Doolittle telling me that it was still
vulnerable to the root exploit posted to bugtraq, I was ready to quit
hacking and start as a carpenter...
Tempting as that was, I didn''t, and started looking for the

Sipura 2100 and Asterisk and Fax
...uff back on in the Sipura and then I got a fax to go through
successfully. Hrmmm...
Next, I tried inbound faxing. No success. Didn't matter if the FAX
stuff was on or off in the Sipura. I googled but could find no help on
any of this. Most folks seem to still be using POTS for faxing. So I
poppped out the Sipura and put my Azacall 200 back in. Sent a test fax.
Perfect! Requested several multi-page faxes from a faxback server and
they all came in fast and perfect!
The Sipura is now sitting on my desk, ready for an RMA#. Unfortunately,
the Azacall has a nasty habit of crashing every few da...

Synology shares not accessible...
Hi,
there is some progress, even I would'nt call it that. At least they
admitted it's caused through some changes from their side.
@Rowland: Remember that "old Samba method" part?
This is their answer. I don't know what to make of it. Maybe someone
with more knowledge about the develoment of Samba can give me a hint:

Windows Firewall, network discovery
A couple of weeks ago, I asked for help with getting tinc to work with a
couple of issues. I prioritize my hobby projects below essential
things, and I'm a bit scatterbrained when there's an internet
connection, so it took awhile before I finished trying the things you
suggested, and got to a point where I was stuck again. Thanks for
taking the time to answer my questions!

Hello, I have an issue that I can't sort out.
Issue: Just applied the latest round of patches that brought me up to this
Samba version and
suddenly end-users are being prompted for authentication when attempting to
access shares
on this CentOS box from their Windows Vista, 7x86, and 7x64 workstations.
