Poolmon: Problem with index-locking
I have Poolmon (https://github.com/brandond/poolmon) set up. When it does all the checks concurrently, obviously there are locking issues on each mailserver it tests: "Warning: Locking transaction log file xxxx/indexes/dovecot.list.index.log took 60 seconds (syncing)" It's just an empty mailbox...

poolmon improvements
I've been planning to improve poolmon failure checking for a long time already, but I still haven't managed to get to it. Maybe somebody else has more time, so here's a feature request for anyone to implement: poolmon currently gives up immediately if the first check to any service fails. It really should be trying multiple ti...

Meantime I've also upgraded the poolmon script, as Sami suggested. It seems that the upgrade has scared the issue away, because it no longer occurred. Maybe the problem is related to the way the old poolmon talked to the director daemon? I'm not very inclined to downgrade poolmon to catch a traceback, but can do if neccessary. -...

Health monitoring of backend servers
Does Dovecot Director health monitoring of backend servers ? Or is poolmon (http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2010-August/051946.html) the best option for this? Maybe Ldirectord? Thanks! -- Thiago Henrique www.adminlinux.com.br

Dovecot cluster using GlusterFS
...h I am not sure how serious it is or if it's possible to solve or workaround? Anyway because of the above and high possibility of GlusterFS split-brains, I have decided to setup Dovecot Director according to the docs [1] but I have a couple of questions: - is custom monitoring still required? Poolmon [2] is 4 year old so I would suppose there's some progress since that? - it's not possible to have same backends and directors in Dovecot <2.2.17. I can backport newer Dovecot for Ubuntu Trusty, so this is not an issue, but.. - documentation states that it still doesn't work...

...t 200k connections currently, so in a perfectly-balanced world, each director would have 20k connections on it. I'm guessing that's child's play. Any good rule of thumb for ratio of 'backend servers::director servers'? In my larger DC, it's about 5::1. * Do you use the perl poolmon script or something else? The perl script was being weird for me, so I rewrote it in python but it basically does the exact same things. * Seen any issues with director? In testing, I managed to wedge things by having my poolmon script running on all the cluster boxes (I think). I've since rew...

...ow as I also use it as a storage for other components. So director is the way to go, I don't want to setup more than two nodes to keep this setup as simple as possible - so I will probably update to 2.2.19 and have director and backend on the same servers (and Dovecot instance). I asked about poolmon, because I think that Dovecot should have some internal mechanism on how to recognize broken backend by default. But if it works nicely, I am going to use it as well :-) > At the moment, I cannot recognize the requirement for using lmtp over > the directors. When using postfix for delivering...

doveadm + HA
Hi I have two server directors in ring and 5 dovecot servers (2.2.36) IP for IMAP and POP3 is a VIP (keepalived) What is the best solutions to get realy HA for 5 dovecot servers ? Maby corosync+pacemeker ? But this solution is too problematic and hardcore Why I need HA ? Doveadmin is too lazy and doveadm director does not know that one machine broke down and still sends traffic

director monitoring?
I'm working the kinks of a new director based setup for the eventual migration away from courier. At this point, with everything basically working I'm trying to ensure that things are properly monitored and I've run into an issue. There doesn't appear to be a way to get dovecot to tell if it is (or is not) connected and properly synced with the other director servers in the ring

NFS vs Replication
Thank you all for replies!!! Some missing infos... - As load balancer I'm using a pair of keepalived with simple setup and not the DNS - Load balancer algorithm is "Weighted Least-Connection" - About 20 domains and 3000 email - I'm monitoring my backend servers with poolmon - The backend servers are virtual machine (vmware) with datastore on "all flash" storage based on yours notes, I think the better choice is Replication. Correct? Thanks, Andrea Il 16/07/20 01:43, Gerald Galster ha scritto: >> I built an email system using a proxy / director pair...
