<p>This does sound like a grounding problem. My (limited) understanding is that when you have 2 audio components plugged in to different outlets, there can be a voltage differential between the ground on the 2 devices, which will create an electrical flow between the 2...

...other possible causes for this, but I would also suspect that it is not a computer problem, but a physical problem.

R <- POO
De hecho, dos de los principios de diseño de R son:
1) Todo lo que existe es un objeto.
2) Todo lo que sucede es una llamada a una función.

here at wkdu.org our minds are blown trying to figure out what our
problem is, we are using a dell optiplex gx1 with a soundblaster live
card. we are getting a nasty hum on the line in. the thing is we
plug a cd player directly into the soundcard the hum goes away and
when we plug the line in into anything else there is no hum, so the

getent passwd/getent passwd username inconsistencies
I've came across what appears to be a bug, but I wanted to get some feedback
on the list before reporting it to make sure I'm not doing something
stupid. I'm using 3.2.7.
I see that when I do "getent passwd", I get an entry like this:
testuser:*:1000:20:Test User:/home/poo/testuser:/bin/bash
But when I do "getent passwd testuser", I get this:
testuser:*:1000:100:Test User:/home/poo/testuser:/bin/bash
It seems that when doing getent passwd username, the primary group is the
user's gidNumber attribute in active directory (which is correct). However

Voice Encryption
Hi,
Does Asterisk support encryption of voice traffic? I found following wiki
that describes IAX RSA authentication. I was able to implement the
public/private key authentication among three Asterisk servers connected
using IAX protocol. I am not certain if voice traffic can also be encrypted
among the Asterisk servers. Your help is highly appreciated.

Dynamic Database Connections
Hey everyone! I have a problem that''s been making me a little nuts.
I would like to use RoR for a upcoming project, but if I can''t get
past this hiccup I''m
afraid I''ll have to use PHP or Java. Ugh.
The application needs to have a database-per-customer model. So when
I do a Product.find(:all) I need to make sure i''m connecting to say

Does Access 2003 work on Wine?
Hi All,
I am trying to convert a customer over to Linux workstation,
instead of upgrading to Windows 7.
One last program to go. I can not get Access 2003 to work
with CentOS 5.4's Wine 1.0.1. I am set to upgrade his test
workstation to Fedora 12 and the latest Wine in a month
or so. (Access 2003 crashed when you try to open a database.)
Does anyone know if Access 2003 works in the latest

Rsync, Perl and samba filesystem (smbfs)
My name is Chris, Hi!
I've got rsync being called from a perl script that is called by cron (or for
that matter, by hand) and when I 'rsync' a locally mounted samba filesystem
(eg. to /mnt/smbfs), it successfully syncs the smbfs to the destination
directory, but without reason hangs... and take all my cpu power...
When i look at all the processes running, the rsync pid is
