Help with lme for split plot
Hello, I am having trouble doing a split plot analysis of variance with lme. The study design is ponds split in two, one side of each pond was a control and the other was one of three chemical treatments. Each pond side was sampled three times, response variable is the mean of twenty animals. So we have sample time within side within pond. Pond is random effects. There are three or four replica...

Every species has a discret colour, but the order of species is displayed different for the ponds. In the original data they have the same order for every pond. This is what i wan...

logistic regression with repeated measures for species-habitat associations
Hi, I have three years of species presence/absence data for a set of ~100 ponds, with a list of associated habitat characteristics (park, vegetation, hydroperiod, etc.). The datasets differ slightly by year because some ponds were dry in some years and not in others. My goal is to look at habitat associations for a couple focal species. For each year, I have a data table t...

data manipulation involving aggregate
hi all, I often have a data frame like this example data.frame(sq=c(1,1,1,2,2,3,3,3,3),area=c(1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3),habitat=c("garden","garden","pond","field","garden","river","garden","field","field")) for each "sq" I have multiple "habitat"s each with an associated "area". I want to aggregate the data frame so that for each "sq" I have a...

Recover ZFS destroyed dataset?
I was asked by a coworker about recovering destroyed datasets on ZFS - and whether it is possible at all? As a related question, if a filesystem dataset was recursively destroyed along with all its snapshots, is there some means to at least find some pointers whether it existed at all? I remember "zpool import -D" can be used to import whole destroyed pools. But crawling around the

Fitting data to a sigmoidal curve
Hi- I'm a biologist trying to figure out the growth rate of salamanders in different ponds. I collected individuals from various populations at different dates, and using the size and date collected, I want to figure out the growth curve of each population. My question is: How do I fit my data to a Gompertz function in R? Thank you so much! Sarah -- View this message in context: http:/...

...dered.factor <- ordered(your.unordered.factor) I do not remember original mail but to get rid of error message, the function probably needs as an input ordered factor or numeric values. temporal and spatial pseudorreplication with lmer
...am trying to fit a generalized linear mixed model to deal with both temporal and spatial pseudorreplication. I have repeated seasonal measurements (3 seasons during 3 years and 2 season during the last year, factor named percod, with 11 levels) of a bird presence/absence (pres.f) on 14 artificial ponds (charca.f). The ponds are integrated in 4 greater spatial units (zepa). I have 11 explanatory variables, some of them are continuous (prof1,prof2,prof4,capac,perim_veget,div_veg,div_herp) and some are factors (ungul.f,ganado.f,turb.f,peces.f). Not all artificial ponds have been monitored in all se...
