Poly-phase Filters in R
...ing to do the following:
1. Use a BandPassFilter h[n] on a series x[n]
2. Then Decimate the series by a factor D such that y[k]=x[k*D]
The decimation factor is considerable (10,000) so that filtering before the
decimation, using convolve(), seems foolish.
Can you think of an R implementation for a polyphase filter, that uses the
fact that most samples will be thrown away...?
Is there a package for it?
Thanks,
Eran.

Sound file quality
I'm building a phone-in demo system to use for introducing Asterisk to
prospective clients.
One of the things I'm wary of is their likely preconceptions that VoIP
systems will have poor audio quality.
As a result, I'd like to ensure that the voice prompts I'm using have the
best possible audio quality.
Is it possible to use sound files at higher than 8kHz sampling? My callers

<<< GSM AUDIOFiles >>>
Hello:
I would like to produce some GSM Prompt audio files for a Telephone
Directory Project-- and have hired a freelance audio engineer to record, and
edit the actual files--
However the GSM files he gives me to upload into asterisk DO NOT work when
played back throgh "Stream File" or "Get Data" in my agi. It seems that
there may be more than one GSM file type (with

Downsampling
It is commonly said here that if I want to make AM radio-quality
stuff at very low bitrates, a good way is to downsample.
I downsampled a song to 11025Hz mono and encoded with -q 0,
the result is about 18kbps and is at least radio quality.
The downsampler I used is from Edinburgh speech tools, named
ch_wave. `sox' performs terribly, so I didn't use it.
However, I heard some unpleasant

patents and separate entropy coding
Hi everyone,
first of all, I searched through the archives for any posts resembling
this, I didn't read all posts about the patents so if this has been
suggested before I apologise.
I read in an article on C|Net (I think, it was linked from Slashdot
anyway) that Thompson are threatening to sue you if Ogg Vorbis becomes a
success. Which is evil, and I'm also mad at them because they never
