what architecture is required for having a samba working ?
Hi list,
Some years ago, here at University of Poitiers, we used something called Netware. But it was
expensive, so it was decided to abandonned it : some services migrated to samba and OpenLDAP, and
others migrated to Windows Server.
So now, Win7 is coming, and unfortunately we can't use Samba2 anymore. So the solution should be to
use Samba3,...

R and perl on solaris
Dear all,
I am developing a GUI in perl-Tk and I would use R engine to make some analysis
and some plots.
I have seen that the package RSPerl allows R from perl exchanges but this
package is developed on and for intel based computers.
When I try to install the package on solaris I have some errors
has somebody already used RSPerl on solaris ?
Many thanks,
Patrick

Vector and String
Hi everybody,
I'm using a vector to strore some strings.
I create a vector named seq2 :
> seq2<-vector(length=0)
I have a string named b
> b
[1] CATGGTAGGAATAC
I put b in the vector
> seq2<-c(seq2,b)
Finally I edit seq2
> seq2
[1] "14760"
My question is why I obtained a number (14760) when I add a string (CATGGTAGGAATAC)
I have an idea : when I edit b, I see

Interface between R and Perl
Hi,
I have made a GUI in PerlTk and I would use R within perl.
I actually try to install RSPerl but I have some problems during the compilation
In order to call R from perl I use actually an other system based on the OPEN
command in perl.
It works fine but when I tried to call the fonction plot() of R from perl the
plot do not appears and a file named plot.ps is generated.
Unfortunalelly, my

providing the current samba PID to a preexec script
Hi all,
I'd to provide the current samba PID with wich the user will be looged
in. It seems this variable is %d in smb.conf
I write it in a log file, and all I can see is the domain name, not the pid
here is the line in my smb.conf :
....
root preexec = /samba_system/scripts/connect.sh %u %m %I %T %D %d
....
what am I doiong wrong ?

giving user rights to files
Hi list,
I have a Samba 3.0.22 server working as domain controller. When a user
copy a file to a share, the file is owned by user root and group "no
group" , not by the user and its group.
All the users are in an LDAP directory, authentication works good, all
groups are declared in LDAP too.
What should I do to have the file with the right owner/group membership ?
For groups, I

how a domain user can become a local administrator ?
Hi list,
I'm using Samba wit a LDAP server. Everything works fine, but I'd like
to know how I can declare a user or a group user as an administrator of
the workstation he/she is logged in.
I tried to modify the guid and the SambaSID in the ldap server, but it
doesn't work. Is there another solution than to declare locally on the
workstation that such group must be of the local

is this a DNS resolution problem ?
Hi list,
I encounter a problem again, which I thought resolved : when joining a
domain, sometimes the workstation says it cannot join, or the domain
does not exist, or something like that, because there is a DNS
resolution probleme. I read the Micro$oft documentation listed in the
error message
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/dns/tshoot/dns_tshoot2A.asp)
I solved the problem, the

can't mount smb shares
Hi list,
it's me again. I have 2 samba servers, one as a PDC, the other as a file
server.
I can now join the domain. But it's impossible to mount the smb shares.
The 2 servers are listening on several private networks, using vlans.
10.16.41.0/24 is a routed network, all over the campus. The others are
just nated through a FreeBSD box.
All dns datas are ok and uptodate
