Pre Poettering rsync?
Hi all,
Five minutes ago I heard a rumor that Lennart Poettering has rewritten
rsync. My top urgency is to download the latest numbered version of
rsync untouched by Lennart Poettering: I'll find out if the rumor is
true or false later.
I've downloaded rsync rsync-3.1.3.tar.gz and rsync-patches-3.1.3.tar.gz
from https://download.samba.org/pub/rsync/ . I...

of the great joys of *NIX is small, stable text files that can be
handled without vast study unlike the obscure behemoth that would look
good coming out of Redmond. Even getting ntp to supply time to

If I ever meet Poettering I'll be sure to sup with a long spoon. ;-(

There is this systemd bug report requesting that UEFI variables be mounted

simply said, "Well, there are tools that actually want to write it. We
also expose /dev/sda accessible for root, even though it can be used to

Of the three things you list, hot-plug is certainly an important one.
But, it's not the big deal. The big deal is that systemd is not just a

Ah well, bed time. I'll tussle with Poettering's logic in the morning.

I call it leadership. Working code argues best.
Benno Rice is right: Lennart Poettering gets stuff done.
In the BSD world, they call the opposite tendency bikeshedding. You can find a thousand people willing to argue about why something shouldn?t be done, or why it shouldn?t be done *that* way for every person capable, willing, and available to write a given piece of software.

[PATCH] Btrfs: add a disk info ioctl to get the disks attached to a filesystem
This was a request from the systemd guys. They need a quick and easy way to get
all devices attached to a Btrfs filesystem in order to check if any of the disks
are SSD for...something, I didn''t ask :). I''ve tested this with the
btrfs-progs patch that accompanies this patch. Thanks,

[PATCH 2/2] customize: firstboot: Install firstboot scripts in multi-user.target (RHBZ#1469655).
When the guest uses systemd, install firstboot scripts under
‘multi-user.target’.
See this link for details:
https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/systemd-devel/2017-July/039325.html
This fixes firstboot on Fedora 26 (and in general with systemd >= 233).
Thanks: Lennart Poettering

Redhat employs Lennart Poettering. Redhat derivates have to follow.
Ubuntu and Debian choose systemd, on one hand, because more and more softs depend on systemd (Gnome 3, for example), and on the other hand, to save maintainers time, dropping their own init system.
The technically best choice, you say ?

Feature request: rewindable resampler
Hello.
As you probably know, PulseAudio uses the resampler from libspeexdsp by
default. As a PulseAudio contributor, I have a feature request.
As you can see from old publications [1,2] by Lennart Poettering,
PulseAudio has a "timer-based scheduling" feature which is now active by
default. PulseAudio attempts to use as high latency as possible
(sometimes up to 2 seconds) in order to save power and reduce the chance
of dropouts. However, in order to stay responsive to events such as
softw...
