...o tried 3.1-66) and am having trouble with fixed parameter estimates slightly away from the maximum of the log likelihood. I have profiled the log likelihood and it is a parabola but with sum dips. Interestingly changing the parameterisation moves the dips around slightly. Unfortunately the PNLS step is finding a maximum at the dips rather than the mle. I have tried using starting values for the fixed parameters without change. Any ideas ? Ken

I am using the try() function as in model<-try((nlme(...))) which handles reported errors such as the "Step halving in PNLS step" error well. On rare runs however the nlme function hangs without an error message. Aborting the script prompts a notification of multiple warnings and warnings() gives multiple recurrences of "Singular precision matrix in level -1, block 1". I understand why these occur...

I am having trouble fitting correlation structures within nlme. I would like to fit corCAR1, corGaus and corExp correlation structures to my data.
