New release!
Hey Folks-
I have just pushed a new release of BackgrounDRb to rubyforge. It
has some nice new features to allow for usage of your ActiveRecord
Models within your worker classes. I also added a config file for
setting hosts and ports and if you want to load rails or not.
Please have a look and let me know if anyone runs into any issues.
If you already have an older version installed

Progress update for non-JavaScript users
Hi there,
I''m running BackgrounDRb for importing some large files into our system. It''s
very nice and we''re able to use a simple JavaScript call to periodically
provide progress messages to the user and, ultimately, success or failure
messages.
How are people relaying progress and/or results messages back to users who
don''t have JavaScript enabled?

opus-codec.org/comparison: Mono or Stereo?
Looking at the Opus comparison page[1], I can't figure out whether the
Opus/AAC/Vorbis/MP3 lines are meant to imply a mono or stereo
encoding. Could someone please update the caption to clarify this?
The single dot for G.711 is clearly mono, but for stereo music, are
the codecs at the top meant to converge near 128 kbps, or 256 kbps?

Nouveau and VESA Adptive Sync (FreeSync)?
Is there any chance that nouveau will be able to support VESA Adaptive
Sync before Nvidia adds it to their proprietary drivers? Or is this
effectively impossible without their cooperation?
I've looked, but haven't managed to find any previous discussion on this topic.

Explain cidinternalcontexts?
Hi there,
could anyone drop a short line on what "cidinternalcontexts" exactly does
in voicemail.conf? The Wiki explanation isn't sufficient - at least not
for me... :->
Also: How/where do I define an Operator extension?
Cheers, Philipp

The effects of encoding repeatedly
I just did this experiment where I took an audio clip, encoded it to Vorbis
q4, decoded it to wav, and repeated several times. I also did the same with
MP3 @ 128k. Here are the resulting files, if anyone is interested in the
results. Clip1 is the first encoding, and Clip8 is the eighth.

opus-codec.org/comparison: Mono or Stereo?
Paul,
you may find the following page has more useful/accurate numbers than that diagram:

This INVITE fails with :
<snip>
chan_sip.c: Trying to pick up 7792 at subs
<snip>
app_directed_pickup.c: No target channel found for 7792.
If I'm dialing *87792 instead of using BLF, then I'm entering the dialplan
part in which there is Pickup(${EXTEN:2}@PICKUPMARK) and the call is
correctly pickup.
So my understanding is :
when upgrading from 1.6.1 to 1.6.2, Asterisk must somehow advertise a newly
supported SIP capability which is now used by ST2030S hardphones to build
Pickup requests.
My question is :
- is my understanding correct ?
- if positive, is t...

Database access for workers
Hi,
nice work on BackgrounDrb! I have a question, though:
What would be the best way to enable database access for a worker,
preferably through ActiveRecord models. Background: I''m trying to
write a worker that periodically gets data from an external source,
writes it to the database and is then displayed by Rails.
Anybody done something like this?
Thanks in advance!

Singleton-like Worker
Hello there,
I need a Worker Class to be Singleton-like, that means there must be at
maximum one Instance at a time. When a new Request is made to create another
worker of this type, it should return and wait for the other instance to be
destroyed.
what i need to do: i have a worker who needs to do sth with java and
openoffice, and it seems when i have more tha one worker simultaneously,
