/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/priorities.conf file disappeared
On 28 July, I changed from ProtectBase to Priorities. I kept unusually detailed notes that day. Yesterday, when I added the RPMForge respository, so I could install MPlayer, I found that the /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/priorities.conf file no longer exists. I'm not sure how that happened. Question: Is there a way to regenerate that file? It's a minor problem, but, what bothers me is that I do *not* think that I deleted that file by accident. I think it disappeared by itself, which, if true, would be troubling. However, I'm open to the possibility that somehow,...

Problems switching from RHEL 6 to Centos 6
Thank you. I could resolve the issues, by editing stuff in /etc/yum/pluginconf.d There, I created a file rhnplugin.conf with the content [rhel-6-server-extras-rpms] enabled=0 [rhel-6-server-optional-rpms] enabled=0 and I edited the file search-disabled-repos.conf and inserted into the line ignored-repos= ... the pattern rhel* I do not know whether this second step was ne...

Questions about kernel updates
...e I could play DVDs with either Xine or mplayer. ( xine-0.99.5-1.el5.rf & mplayer-1.0-0.36.rc1try2.el5.rf ). This is no big deal to me -- as long as I can make certain that the older kernel doesn't go away. If I understand the installonly plugin correctly, an entry of tokeep=4 in /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/installonlyn.conf will cause yum to leave the working kernel in place through 2 more upgrades. Aside from setting tokeep to an insanely large value, is there any way to insure that yum will concern itself only with installing updates, allowing me to deal with tossing the old stuff? Also, is my...

Centos 6 - vnc - authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages
A window keeps popping up on my remote desktop stating "authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages. An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges. Authentication as the super user is required to perform this action" and asking for the root password. If I hit cancel it comes back several minutes later. I've found

yum-fastestmirror inconsistent exclude behavior
Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out something wherein excluded repositories for the yum-fastestmirror plugin are still being used by the system. To illustrate: [root at sales ~]# cat /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf [main] enabled=1 verbose=0 socket_timeout=3 hostfilepath=/var/cache/yum/timedhosts.txt maxhostfileage=10 maxthreads=15 #exclude=.gov, facebook exclude=maulvi, .gov.ph, .vn (Note the name of mirrors that I am trying to exclude) However, when I run yum, this is what I get: [ro...
