Urgent - I really need some help lme4 model avg Estimates
Hello all,
If someone could take a little time to help me then I would be very
grateful.
I studied piping plovers last summer. I watched each chick within a brood
for 5 minutes and recorded behaviour, habitat use and foraging rate.
There were two Sites, the first with 4 broods and the second with 3 broods.

Use voice onset timing to identify voiceless
In increasing the computation time and bit rate with VBR:
Has anyone considered implementing the standard audiological
recognition technique of using the duration of zero energy (voice
onset timing) to identify the presence of voiceless sounds?
I would like a means of determining whether or not a given window will
be full of voiced speech or not.

capturing stderr/stdout
Hi,
I have an application in perl that prints some output to either stderr
or stdout.
Here's an example:
# tmp.pl
print STDERR "starting iterator\n";
for(my $i = 0; $i < 1000000; $i++) {
print $i . "\n";
}
# tmp.R
con <- pipe("perl tmp.pl")
r <- readLines(con, n = -1)
close(con)
However, the second line stalls until the perl for-loop finishes.

how to migrate 40T data and 180M files
hi,
I need to migrate 40T data and 180M files from one storage device to another
one, both source and destination will be NFS and mounted to a local suse
linux box.
The first question is that if there is any risk for such a big number of
files? should I divide them into groups and rsync them in parallel or in
serial? If yes, how many groups is better?
The second question is about memory. How

two lmer questions - formula with related variables and output interpretation
Hello,
I have been attempting to set up a lme and have looked at numerous posts
including 'R's lmer cheat-sheet' as well as reading a number of papers and
other resources including R help, but I am still a little confused on how to
write my model (I thought I had it).
I have asked a number of questions on different forums; most of which have
been resolved.
My main concern right now

Switching from webrick to mongrel
I got tired of restarting my puppetmaster when it stopped responding and
finally switched to mongrel last night.
When running under mongrel, what sort of concurrent connection rates are
people able to get? I dont know how many individual puppetmaster
processes I should spawn, or how to tell when I should span more.
Perhaps I need more than two, because this morning I had a look at how
