difficulty setting up Samba PDC.. please help... out of ideas
I am trying to test a Samba PDC on our network that currently shares files as a workgroup (with a different name, of course). Microsoft states that this can be done, with no issues (so long as the workgroup and the domain have different names). The permanent home for the shares is on //receptionist. ( The temporary home for the Samba PDC is on //haze. ) Once the PDC has been set up

Centos 5 File Server X-Windows problem
I have a file server that runs a virtual machine that suddenly blanked its display. I can switch to <ctrl><alt><f1>, but switching back to <ctrl><alt><f7> just gives me a blank screen (no cursor). There are no entries in /var/log/messages or in /var/log/Xorg.0.log that might explain what happened. I was running IceWM, but I can't find any logs for it

win xp home media edition / Samba 3.023c
I have an issue where one client machine (out of 10, the only one running 'xp home media') is being forced off periodically and closing XP's file browser. It seems to be random. My Samba configuration is a simple one -- just sharing files, it is not handling authentication. All other clients work as expected: Log in, for the first time, access as many times as desired after the

Inconsistent behavior with XP pro clients
I'm seeing inconsistent behavior with XP pro clients on a Samba PDC. In one case, (a virtual machine) it appears to log in and everything looks great. In another ( a slower PC ), the PC rejects the user login ( even with the registry hack ), and in a third, the PC takes a long time to "synchronize" not just the user that logged in that time, but all users that have logged in

notepad: LocalizedResourceName=
I have notepad popping up for every user with a long message that starts out: [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787 I found an explanation here: http://www.hostingforum.ca/131016-samba-notepad-selfstart-login.html: > What is happening is that the desktop.ini file that is normally hidden is > having those attributes stripped off, possibly

Intel 965 Chipset and CentOS 5
I'm trying to install CentOS 5 on an Intel DG965W MB, but I'm getting a kernel panic: VFS: Cannot open root device "<NULL>" or unknown-block(253,0) Please append a correct "root=" boot option Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(253,0) I suspect it is because the drive is not being recognized (at all), but I'm not sure.

Compiling kernel/drivers for hw RocketRaid 1640
I picked up a RocketRaid 1640 card b/c it had support for "RedHat". Apparently, their version of "RedHat" is "stable"(9), which I pointed out was "dead" for all security purposes... (at least, that was what I understood from someone in one of the RH/clone IRC channels.) It turns out that I need to build a new driver from their open source code. This

Internet threat management package
... Looking for a recommendation for a commercial threat management package. ( Think antivirus / antispy / anti-rootkit -- all rolled into one engine ), similar to this product: http://usa.kaspersky.com/products_services/work-space-security.php, which currently only supports one kernel for FC6, and RHEL4, officially. Here's the background. Need to make a decision and investment for a

Centos 5 Samba File Server dropping files
Twice I've gotten the report that a user has attempted to move a folder of many files up one level, and all of the files disappeared. Searching for the files in the share proves that they aren't there any more, nor are they where they should have been moved to. I desperately need to find the cause of this. Has anyone else seen this happen on their file server? The samba log file
