John Rosatti, Excavators, 3D, NASA and Why Should I care?
Well, because! There are two definitions for excavator; one is any person
engaging in excavation is called an excavator. The second definition of
excavator is, of course, the vehicles called excavators, which are sometimes
called diggers, trackhoes, fronthoes, and 360-degree excavators or just
360. This is not to be confused with

The internet needs a dialing code..
It seems to me that ITSP's like to use a US dialing code eg 1-xxx
Wouldn't it be cool to have an Internet dialing code??
I don't know what the structures are or how the allocations work but it
would be so cool to know that 1-xxx was USA , 44-xxx was UK and yy-xxx
was an internet phone.. That way the whole internet phone space could be
consolidated into a single dialing structure

Errors on install...
Hi all,
I found the web site for R and decided to install it on my freebsd system;
however, I have run into 'permission problems' during execution. I do the
standard .configure, make, make check, make install and install into the
default location of /usr/local/... but when a normal user attempts to run
'R' I get the following:

Compressed backup
Hi
I am using rsync for backup on the disks of a Linux backup server.
Obviously the server could store more data it the data were
compressed. I read the "rsync -> tar" thread. Unfortunately, a
compressed file system for Linuthere does not seem to exist yet.
However, rsync can use compression for file transfer.
Would it be possible to implement an option to store the data on the

Diagnostic message end up in STDERR
Hi
I am getting messages like
total: matches=0 tag_hits=0 false_alarms=0 data=0
or
total: matches=29 tag_hits=59 false_alarms=0 data=1663794
in STDERR when I use rsync with "-vv". Is this a known
bug?
Here is the full rsync command:
rsync -e ssh -abvv --delete --exclude lost+found/ --exclude core
--exclude *.o --exclude .netscape/cache --max-delete=250
--backup-dir=/some/path

Route optimization.
Is there prior work or examples on setting up a router to perform
route optimization for customers (such as using traceroute, etc.)? I
recently came across a vendor that has implemented a Cisco appliance
that does this . . . it watches customer traffic and then sets about
trying to optimize the route the customer''s traffic takes.

Differential Equations Using R?
To whom it may concern,
I am a student at Macaleste College, and next semester Macalester
is going to offer a course for CellBio that is mainly statistically based.
For the most part the students will be using R for analysis. The problem is
there will be some simple differential equations for the students to solve.
