Problems joining a Samba PDC controlled Domain
Hello, I'm having problems to join a japanese W2K Client with SrvPck 2 installed to my samba 2.2.5 PDC controlled domain. Other Clients are no problem (Win98, W2k engl., WXP german). I check the regKey (for plaintextpassword; set to 1). Reinstalled SevPck 2, but didn't help. the problem must be on Client side because I having the same problem when jooining a other samba controlled Domain with this box. I ran smbd with debug levels 1,2,3,4 and 10 but this didn't tell very much about this client it seems to me....

Samba encrypt passwd
Hi, I have samba installed on my Linux system (Red Hat 7.2), and Windows 98 on another PC as a Samba client. Samba works great if PlainTextPassword is enabled. However, if PlainTextPassword is disabled on Windows client, connection to the Samba shares no longer accepted. I believe I've done everything in order to make encrypt passwd working: * I converted /etc/passwd to /etc/samba/smbpasswd using mksmbpasswd.sh script....

I'm positive I did everything right to get Dovecot to take usernames and passwords from /etc/dovecot/users, but it still goes for /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow. win2000 plaintext password
...When connecting to a samba share from a win2000 professional machine, I get prompted for a password. Security is set to user on the samba machine. I reenter the same password as the local user that I login as, and then it accepts it. I'm not using encrypted passwords, but I have added the PlainTextPassword registry setting to the win2000 machine. Even when I have drives mapped upon login, the first drive always asks me to enter the password even though it's the same as the user's password. Is there anyway to fix this? -- Jon Mitchell Systems Engineer, Subject Wills & Company jrm@swc.co...

WinNT authentication problem
I am a newbie here and I have been going around in circles with this problem. I have set up samba to use encrypted p/w and use a WinNT4 sp4 client with registry changed for plaintextpasswords. I can 'map network drive' successfully and peruse all the shares but if I try to use the 'Network Neighborhood', then I can see the shares (so I guess that I have been authenticated correctly) but I get "Access denied" if I try to descend into them. I know the shares ar...

2.2.8: browsing and accessing Sun from Windows XP
...smbd turned up to 10 and snoops show 'stuff' this time, but the smbd logs show nothing that seems like an error or related to failed authentication in any way. Snoop show a little traffic, including the stage where XP tries to authenticate from HTTP (a little strange, but ok). I also have PlainTextPassword enabled. I don't get it. I have read everything I can. This has to be something simple that I either set up incorrectly/incompletely, or I am expecting this to work when it is not supposed to. I would appreciate any clues. I can send the snoop output or the smb logs, if anyone wants to see...

Stupid problem with SAMBA and Windows NT4...
.... Server: Samba 2.5.x on SuSE 8.1 (that samba which comes with SuSE 8.1) Password-Encryption=NO PDC-Controller: NONE This is a simple workgroup LAN. There is also one Windows NT4.0 Server there, running since some years. Clients:Windows NT 4.0 Workstation PlainTextPassword-Patch installed. Windows-Users log in with no password into the Windows-Network. Because the Linux-Server is primarily the Internet Mailserver, this machine uses good passwords. (Does not harm users, because Eudora remembers the password, so they do not have to hack...

Register => plain text password
Hello, Is there anyway to encrypt or scramble a bit the secret used to register with a provider? Im talking about the register => fromuser at fromdomain:secret at host directive in sip.conf<http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+config+sip.conf> This clever dude modified the code back in 1.4: http://www.oneharding.com/voip/asterisk_md5_register.html I imagine that so many years

Win 9x and WinNT Clients connecting to Samba-Server
Hello, I know I should get rid of the problem by my own, but unfortunally I failed. So I ask: I`ve a subnet of win9x and WinNT clients connecting to our Linux file server (no more servers in this subnet) via samba 2.02. All win95 can see and mount services of the Samba server. But win98 and WinNT can only see the server but can not connect to a service. I`ve no encryption and security= user in
