installing a pseudo driver in a Solaris DOM U and DOM U reboot
...oot of DOM 1, the driver is no more
there (in modinfo, driver not found).
Is there something special to do after a pseudo driver installation in
a Solaris domU ?
We try:
- a touch /reconfigure: doesn''t help
- a forceload in /etc/system: doesn''t help
The only hack we found is to pkgrm the driver and pkgadd the driver again
after a dom U restart.
Pseudo Driver installation is done the following way:
# pkgadd -d ... SUNWegcff
that adds
/etc/devlink.tab:
type=ddi_pseudo;name=ffmod ffmod\M0
/etc/minor_perm:
clone:ffmod 0600 root sys
and does
/usr/sbin/add_drv -v ffmod

problem with smbios 2.13?
Hello,
I''m using the latest b75 ISO to try and get a solaris dom0 running on my
laptop, a Sony SZ-330P. The Xen LiveCD works just fine, so I know that
theoretically it should work. Build 75 also works just fine on my Sony,
including sound and video, etc.
But when I try and boot the Xen kernel, the system hangs. There''s no
panic printed to console. If I pass a -v option at

how to update solaris packages without keeping local copies
Greetings,
I have a solaris package stored on a puppet server. I''d like
to be able to maintain the package on a client system without
having to also keep a copy of the package file on the client
system. (think lots and lots of packages)
Checksums work okay for noticing changes on the fileserver,
but it seems that I have to keep a local copy of the file as well.
When I rev the package

Problem upgrading Samba on Solaris 8 - getting "requires that a unique instance error"
...ade to the system.
------------------------------------------------------
The command "pkginfo -l |grep -i samba" shows
PKGINST: SMCsamba
NAME: samba
VENDOR: The Samba Group
PKGINST: samba
VENDOR: Samba Team
EMAIL: samba@samba.org
Do I need to run the command "pkgrm SMCsamba" and then run the upgrade
again?
Thanks

snv_42 zfs/zpool dump core and kernel/fs/zfs won''t load.
...installed at one point with snv_29 with the pre integration
SUNWzfs package. I did a live upgrade to snv_42 but forgot to remove
the old SUNWzfs before I did so. When the system booted up got
complaints about kstat install because I still had an old zpool kernel
module lying around.
So I did pkgrm SUNWzfs and SUNWzfskr SUNWzfsku SUNWzfsr (ie the old and
the new).
I then rebooted, all okay.
Now I need to get ZFS bits on here so I pkgadd SUNWzfs* from the snv_42
Solaris_11/Product directory. All goes fine but zfs(1) and zpool(1)
dump core because /dev/zfs doesn''t exist - because...

pkgsrc provider for Package?
Hello
I''m wondering if anyone has looked into adding pkgsrc package
management as a provider for Package?
We use Joyent accelerators (zones on OpenSolaris) for our many of our
production services and about a year ago Joyent switched from
Blastwave to pkgsrc for userland packages.

buildpkg.sh enhancements
...ditions
PKG_REQUEST_LOCAL Local request additions
I've moved OPENSSHD_IN up so it can be overriden by your config.local
$srcdir is now available to scripts
Start to add support for OpenSerever. (not done yet)
I've always intended for this script to work on any system that
has the pkgadd/pkgrm tools.
We now build an empty depend file that you can add to.
We now build a postremove file.
If you link buildpkg.sh to justpkg.sh you can use justpkg.sh to do a
pkgmk, pkgtrans from the bits already installed instead of
removing $FAKE_ROOT and starting from scratch.
Enjoy.

Compiling issue on x86!
Hi thanks for your posts so far. Since what I had assumed was a 32 bit kernel which I compiled didn''t work, I religiously set out on compiling a 64 bit version as my system is currently booted in 64 bit mode.
I installed SUNStudio12 on the system and set the SPRO_VROOT to point towards it and when I do a make all in usr/src directory, I get the following error when make cwds and runs in

I am going to have to start from scratch and re-install Samba 2.2.0 A few
questions:
1. is there a command to "uninstall" the entire Samba package - i.e. in
Solaris you can use 'pkgrm' to remove a software package completely?
2. should I include the flags "--with-nisplus" "--with-nisplus-home" and
"--with-automount" during the configuration phase?
