Introducing py-pkg: Python wrappers for libpkg (pkgng)
Hello, I've been working on getting Python wrappers for libpkg (pkgng) for the past few weeks and I think that I've reached the point to actually announce it :) Anyway, straight to the point. You can find on the below listed links information about the libpkg Python wrappers along with example usage, documentation and of course the code repository. * Introduct...

packages (binary) update best practice
...hink about some package depends on other, this could create some little problem); 2) perform # pkg_add -F <pkg_name> (not tried yet) and overwrite the already installed pkg ? 3) have a separate server on which create an update pkg from ports (ie from source) ? 4) use the new package system pkgng, converting the existing installation ? (this operation is not reversible, so I am waiting before doing this) I would have some ideas on this topic please, from a security perspective; Thanks Roberto

10.0 BETA3 - nanobsd.sh does not use pkg
Hi, all, I just wanted to report that. I do not yet have a patch to suggest. nanobsd.sh cust_pkg() still tries to call pkg_add and fails when adding packages to the NANO_WORLD_DIR. tbz vs. txz ? Logging of installed packages.
In the light of this: http://www.freebsd.org/news/2012-compromise.html It would be nice if there was default way to log all package installations from both pkgs and ports. Is there? If not, what would you recommend for doing this? Thanks.

repo.txz missong on packages-9-stable for pkg
Hello :-) I want to test new "pkg" tool, but it complains that there is no repo.txz file on the repository: # pkg install libreoffice Updating repository catalogue pkg: ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/amd64/packages-9-stable/All//repo.txz: File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access) I have set PACKAGESITE to packages-9-stable repository :-) Will this support stable

portupgrade(1) | portmaster(8) -- which is more effective for large upgrade?
Greetings, I haven't upgraded my tree(s) for awhile. My last attempt to rebuild after an updating src && ports, resulted in nearly installing the entire ports tree, which is why I've waited so long. Try as I might, I've had great difficulty finding something that will _only_ upgrade what I already have installed, _and_ respect the "options" used during the original

Strange problem with... ZFS? Disk? Controller?
Hello, I'm running FreeBSD 9.0/amd64, pure ZFS setup, one Seagate disk ST2000NM0011 SN02 on LSI Logic (mpt) controller. Yes, I know that running one disk on RAID controller is a bit weird, I have to find yet if it is possible to connect disk to internal SATA controller. About two days ago, system became SLOW. Disk usage is constantly 100%, and sometimes I'm getting swap_pager:

curl and CVE-2013-2174
Dear members, It may sound a silly question. I have curl installed: # pkg_info |grep curl curl-7.24.0_3 Non-interactive tool to get files from FTP, GOPHER, HTTP(S) Today portsnap updated the ftp/curl port, and patch-CVE-2013-2174 appeared in files/, but the port version remained such that portaudit, and portupgrade still complain about curl's version. What is the recommended way to

Freebsd + Puppet 3.2.2 pkg_add -f ?
Shouldn''t pkg_add be using the -r option for package management? I worked around by forcing the client to use ports instead, but it stinks. Any thoughts? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an email to

FreeBSD 10 Beta 2: make installkernel failure with installer provided ZFS configuration.
...wed section 23.7 (rebuilding "world") explicitly. I have not altered the test system in any way from the installer provided settings. I'm reporting this as a bug, but would would also like some advice on how to fix it. Literally all that has been done post installation is: a) install pkgng. b) install svn using pkgng. c) sync repositories with svn. d) make buildworld. e) make buildkernel. Thanks! root at els1:/usr/src # make installkernel -------------------------------------------------------------- >>> Installing kernel GENERIC ------------------------------------------...

FreeBSD 9.1 stability/robustness?
I need to build up a few servers and routers, and am wondering how FreeBSD 9.1 is shaping up. Will it be likely to be more stable and robust than 9.0-RELEASE? Are there issues that will have to wait until 9.2-RELEASE to be fixed? Opinions welcome. --Brett Glass

FreeBSD 10-CURRENT and 9-STABLE snapshots
Hi, A number of FreeBSD users have displayed interest in the availability and testing of -STABLE and -CURRENT snapshot releases. I have been working on generating snapshots regularly, and now would like to announce their availability for those interested in testing. Please note, as always with the -STABLE and -CURRENT branches, these snapshots are not intended for production systems. The

Why Are You Using FreeBSD?
Hi Everyone, This is off-topic, so please feel free to disregard it, but I'm sending it to this list in the hope that it will reach a largish number of users. I am currently looking at updating some of our advocacy material (which advertises exciting new features like SMP support), and before I do I'd like to get a better feel for why the rest of you are using FreeBSD. FreeBSD Quarterly Status Report, January-March 2013
...mong his notable contributions, was the task of migrating the Ports Tree from the old CVS repo to Subversion. Bryan Drewery (bdrewery) joined the Ports Management team in March, bringing with him his wealth of knowledge and skill from maintaining portupgrade, portmaster, assisting with pkgng, as well as co-developing poudriere. Open tasks: 1. Most ports PRs are assigned, we now need to focus on testing, committing and closing. __________________________________________________________________ FreeBSD Postmaster Team Contact: David Wolfskill <postmaster at F...

BIND segway -> python -> first-class ports
