Port multiplier support in megaraid* module for LSI LOGIC LSI00042 PCI-X SATA II Controller?
...full bandwidth to each drive can have its
advantages for streaming reads and writes, but the seeky workload I
expect won't benefit much from the extra theoretical bandwidth. In
order to save on sata controller port usage, I'd probably have to get a
few port multipliers.

The SC-SAT10PM holds 10 drives, uses two port multipliers, connects to
the SATA HBA with 2 esata connections (and may be rack mountable with
some customizations -- I need to check further). Because of the area
the server and storage will be in, the enclosure...

adaptec RAID
We've got this PC PitStop RAID box (they're so proud of it, there's no
logo), and what lspci tells me is an Adaptec AAC-RAID (ref 09) controller.
I see there's no F/OSS controllers for it, but when I go to Adaptec's
site, the search denies all knowledge of such a controller. I'd like to
get the correct o...

Recommendation for home NAS external JBOD
Hi,
my oi151 based home NAS is approaching a frightening "drive space" level. Right now the data volume is a 4*1TB Raid-Z1, 3 1/2" local disks individually connected to an 8 port LSI 6Gbit controller.
So I can either exchange the disks one by one with autoexpand, use 2-4 TB disks and be happy. This was my original approach. However I am totally unclear about the 512b vs 4Kb issue.

j4200 drive carriers
apparently if you don''t order a J4200 with drives, you just get filler
sleds that won''t accept a hard drive. (had to look at a parts breakdown
on sunsolve to figure this out -- the docs should simply make this clear.)
it looks like the sled that will accept a drive is part #570-1182.
anyone know how i could order 12 of these?

ZFS RaidZ recommendation
I have been searching this forum and just about every ZFS document i can find trying to find the answer to my questions. But i believe the answer i am looking for is not going to be documented and is probably best learned from experience.
This is my first time playing around with open solaris and ZFS. I am in the midst of replacing my home based filed server. This server hosts all of my media
