Pine 4.02 and directory perms
Hey linux-security-ers: I just compiled/installed Pine 4.02 for my RH 5.0 machine today (didn't see an RPM last time I checked ftp.redhat.com:/pub/contrib), and after I got it installed, it kept giving me errors about not being able to create a lockfile when dinking with my mailspool in /var/spool/mail. After doing some digging on DejaNews and the...

pine/dovecot issues
Folks, I'm running into some issues with pine and dovecot. (dovecot is running mbox for now... plan to switch to maildir soon.) At first I thought it was a funky issue with the way I was using pine to access mailboxes. (I use rsh to invoke imap as pre-authenticated so when I switch to maildirs, I don't have to worry about pine being patche...

Migrating from UW IMAP - pine - Thunderbird - squirrelmail
Hello! I saw your post to the mailing list (http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2006-January/010968.html) where you write "A description for pine with imap acces without entering any password is also discussed.", but I didn't find such description in this post. Would you be so kind to point me to some source where it is explained - currently users have to insert the password twice - when they open the shell window and when th...

pine, INBOX, and dovecot
Hi all, I've been experimenting with Dovecot; tests with Maildir seemed to work fine. However, now I'm trying with mbox folders, and I'm having a problem where I do not get an INBOX listed using pine. Outlook Express and IMP show it fine. I snooped part of the session, which appears to go like this (it is slightly garbled, sorry -- I couldn't get rawlog to work by creating dovecot.rawlog in the mail home directory): 00000002 CAPABILITY\r\n * CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 SORT THREAD=REFERENCES MU...

extra characters after mailbox names
After installing alpha3, when I view a list of my IMAP mailboxes in Pine 4.64 on Linux, several of the mailbox names are followed by odd characters: ., ~, and _. So the list of mailboxes looks like: INBOX saved_ sent-mail~ Biz Service. Home_ and so forth. The distribution of the characters remains the same throughout the Pine session, but is different every time I...

OT: Looking for a robust IMAP client
...er 18 hours, my inbox had 135,000 messages in it...there were two messages that were being endlessly sent and bounced and I'm on the postmaster alias. Thunderbird was able to do a mass select of one of the two messages, and deleted 65,000, but after that it locked up. I ended up firing up Pine to do the final 65,000...whereas TBird had had mulitple imap sessions (and failed), Pine only had one and did the job. And even after I had done the mass delete of the other 65,000 and the inbox was down to 2000 messages, TBird was still hiding under the covers and telling me there were still 13...

"Discarding bogus continuation" message in pine
Running 1.0alpha5 (though I've been having this problem for the past couple of versions), and using mbox for the mailboxes. After I've read my mail using Apple's Mail.app (or Thunderbird) and take it offline, when I try to open the INBOX (or any mailbox) with pine, I get the following message (in pine): [Discarding bogus continuation in msg 1: $Forwarded NonJunk] Quitting and re-running pine does not bring up this message again, and it looks like it's getting confused by the internal mbox message's X-IMAP line: X-IMAP: 1076598957 000025726...
