Cygwin rsync to RH rsync server
Ok I updated both systems to rsync-2.6.8 and found the info on setting
strace on the server. Here are the trace logs, there are two calls the
first is just the module list which finishes normally the second is the
file list in the test module which fails after the list.
By the way I have no idea what any of this means (sorry if I'm not
supposed to post traces to the list)

Trouble with ldapsam on OpenBSD
I'm trying to setup a basic Samba 3 domain with LDAP on OpenBSD. When
using the ldapsam passdb, the smbd processes terminate. I've poured
over the log files and tried everything I can think of to troubleshoot
it. The odd thing I've noticed is that if I start smbd and don't cause
any network connections to it for about 20 minutes, then it works
perfectly. I'm really hoping that

Authentication fails (sometimes)
Hello,
I am usually able to log me onto my domain. However, i have problems to
get authentication under windows where I need admin rights, which also
succeeds some times.
I have the following in my groupmap:

admin (S-1-5-21-4092459118-2595994810-1099795350-512) -> admin

Rsync tries to access unnecessary files/dirs after chrooting itself.
Hi.
While debugging some encfs errors in the logs, I realized they are
being generated because rsync (chrooted inside a encfs file system,
--reverse) is trying to access files like: /root/.popt, /etc/localtime
etc. This doesn't seem to be related to ID-name mapping as I already
have numeric ids enabled in config. Here is the relevant strace
output:
[pid 25549] chroot("/chroot")

[PATCH nbdkit 4/4] tests: Add a helper function which waits for nbdkit to start up.
This assumes bashisms, but bash is required to run the tests.
This is mostly simple refactoring. Except for the test-memory*.sh
tests where nbdkit used to run in the foreground, but that seems to be
a consequence of some left over debugging.

rsync 2.6.2 appears to hang
I've had a long-standing problem syncing my home directory from one
Linux system (RH Linux 7.3) to another (RH Linux 9). I am now
running rsync version 2.6.2 on both ends. I use ssh as the data
transport. The two machines are separated by a VPN over the
Internet.
What happens is that the sending rsync just appears to hang. The
receiving rsync processes are no longer running when I go

convert plugin fails - drops root privileges then tries to create file in /
Hi
I just tried to run the convert plugin as described at
http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Convert
(except with mail_location = maildir:~/Mail)
It fails with an error message:
Eopen(/.temp.falcon.endbracket.net.18618.8d5e0a038da6cf06) failed:
Permission denied
Error: imap dump-capability process returned 89
It looks like Dovecot execs /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap, which drops root
privileges

[PATCH v2 nbdkit 5/5] tests: Add a helper function which waits for nbdkit to start up.
This assumes bashisms, but bash is required to run the tests.
This is mostly refactoring. However the changes (simplifications) are
quite substantial:
- Since the new start_nbdkit helper function cleans up nbdkit on
exit, most scripts no longer need to deal with the pid or kill the
pid in the cleanup function.
- As a result, cleanup functions are radically simpler, and often

Hi,
here is an example of tftpd-hpa running in daemon mode failing to
reopen /dev/log. No wonder, as it tries after chrooting.
Cheers,

pid-provider sees ld.so.1 only
I''m trying to do some userspace tracing on a server-process with the pid provider.
My problem is, that the only probes the pid-provider lists for the server-process (to which I attach dtrace with "-p nnnn") are coming from "ld.so.1".
There''s not a single one from my modules.
If I''m specifying "a.out" (or any of our shared-objects) as the

INTERNAL ERROR Report
I have read the BUGS.txt file, used 'testparm' (successfully), and run
through all the steps in DIAGNOSIS.txt. I don't see any problems that
those tools have identified. The BUGS.txt file indicated that INTERNAL
ERROR was almost certainly the result of a bug. I'm hopeful I have sent
you the information you need. Let me know if there is something more I
need to send.

rsync stops/hangs (from windows to debian)
We've been using rsync to send updates to our webservers from a central location for years. All the webservers used to be Windows 2000 Server running rsync 2.6.3. Recently I've been trying to replace them with Debian servers with rsync 2.6.9. The central file server is a Windows 2000 Server using the cwRsync binary. It was also 2.6.3 until I upgraded it to use 2.6.9 also.
The initial
