simple C function segfaults
Hello, I use the simplest of examples that somebody can think of in order to generate a matrix of random numbers from within C, calling appropriate R functions. The concrete example is below: --- file pico.c #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <math.h> #include <R.h> #include <Rmath.h> #define COLM( i, j, m ) ( m*j + i) void pico ( double *y, int n, int m ) { int i, j; GetRNGstate(); for ( i=0; i<n; i++ ) { for (...

smbclient sees the virtual samba server but not the windows clients
...it will refuse to serve the clients (claiming unavailable service). The setup is that the real host has "wins support = yes", the virtual points to the real by "wins server = 192.168.0.4" and they both bind to their own interface only. The virtual host uses "netbios name = pico". Real hostname is "marvin". The WorkGroup is RI. Everybody can connect to the real host (marvin) but only marvin (linux) can connect to the virtual host. Everybody (win clients) can see both marvin and pico on the network. I can't figure out what is happening here. I've...

openssh 2.2, fbsd 4.2: incoming data hangs sshd on tty
This message is reporting 2 possible bugs: a possible problem with sshd from OpenSSH 2.2 on FreeBSD 4.2, and a possible security hole in FreeBSD's boot process (??) I am not an expert on these kinds of issues and therefore do not have the knowledge necessary to trace the origins of the problem to the extent that would probably be helpful. Nevertheless, here goes: Here is the physical

Ruby/rails on Mac OSX not working
I have been using Locomotive for rails development and recently decided to fix up the ruby/rails install that is on my mac. As we all know, Ruby 1.8.2 came on the mac and has problems, so I followed the instructions at Hivelogic for installing the latest versions of Ruby, Rails, Lighttpd and so forth. How to edit icecast.xml via SSH on Linux?

It is simply straight forward. *) Connect to the machine with ssh *) Use an editor like vi/pico/nano/joe Example : $vi /etc/icecast.xml $pico /etc/icecast.xml Hope I didn't oversimplify the question.
Recommendation for HTML editor
I was playing around with Nvu, and discovered it has serious problems. Mainly that it reformats one's code regardless of whether or not one selects the "Don't reformat code" option. I know there are a few HTML editors out there, so I'm not asking if they exist. What I'm wondering if there are those on this list who may have a recommendation for one they like and why.
