Help with filing a [maybe] ZFS/mmap bug.
.... Unfortunately my simplest test case is a bit cumbersome and I haven't definitively proven that the problem is ZFS related. I'm hoping for some feedback on how to move forward. Quick background: I rip my CD's using grip and produce flac files. I tag the music using Musicbrainz' Picard and transcode it to mp3's within Picard using a plugin that I wrote. Picard is a python based app and uses the Mutagen library to tag files. I'm working on a MacPro with 10GB ram and using Seagate ST31000340AS drives updated to the latest firmware (SD1A). The system is running 9-STABLE f...

question related to S-Plus
...rrays, functions, and so on have to be re-created from scratch in R, or is there a way to copy them into the .Rdata directory? The answer to this question has major implications for the extent to which R is attractive in the near term, and any enlightenment would be much appreciated. Thanks, Rick Picard

Attempting to install samba
...w to this list and to samba. I used samba in a previous life, but someone else installed and maintained it. I am have a small issue that I do not know if it is resolvable. Here it is: I have installed samba on the server named "kirk", our master domain controller for nt is named "picard". They are on the same subnet. My clients are on a different subnet. My client can see kirk in the network neighborhood, but when accessed it returns "\\kirk is not accessible The network path was not found." I am not sure what other info I need to provide. Any help would be ap...

Possible critical Xen issue on Buster
Hey Xen devel team, I’ve never mailed a developer list before, but I’m worried I may have stumbled across a bad Xen/Debian packaging bug. My confidence is somewhere above “just mail -user” and below “open a bug in xen-system-amd64”. Apologies if this is the wrong usage of the list. I’ve updated to Buster, and my Xen kernel no longer boots. I believe it’s because Xen only offers versions 4.11 and

ACLs with samba
Hi- I am experiencing some odd behavior with ACLs with winbindd using Samba 2.6 on Debian Woody (kernel version 2.4.18). 1. I am unable to alter permissions from Win2K clients using the Properties->Security interface. Is this normal? I get the "Unable to save Permission Changes on new Folder. Access is denied." message. This occurs with all accounts, both privileged and

Ogg Flac padding
....nartowicz.webspace.virginmedia.com/oggflac/pad.oga Now the same thing with both the vorbis comment packet padded and a separate padding packet. Won't play and metaflac says it is garbage. I say it is entirely legal, according the the Ogg Flac mapping spec and general Ogg specification. The Picard tagging tool reads this file OK. http://www.nartowicz.webspace.virginmedia.com/oggflac/pad_pad.oga A similar thing with a padded vorbis comment packet and a seektable packet. http://www.nartowicz.webspace.virginmedia.com/oggflac/pad_plus.oga None of these files show the issue with padding metadat...

an off-topic question -> model validation
Currently, I am working on a data mining project and plan to divide the data table into 2 parts, one for modeling and the other for validation to compare several models. But I am not sure about the percentage of data I should use to build the model and the one I should keep to validate the model. Is there any literature reference about this topic? Thank you so much!

I would like to create an ssh_config file with two basic groups of settings: A default "Host *" settings group with: Proxycommand=/my/helper/binary %h %p And another specific "Host specialServer" settings group with ProxyCommand= or ProxyCommand='' And yes, my current ssh_config file is setup in the correct order with the "Host *" declaration last. Out of memory handling?
Hi, As far as I see in libvorbis most of the places where _ogg_malloc(), _ogg_realloc and _ogg_calloc() is called the return value is not checked for out of memory condition. Is there any plan to change this? For my use-case the application is not allowed to crash. So if libvorbis can not handle this condition, I guess I would need to preallocate a large enough custom memory heap for all kind of
