Automatic implementation of "trivial" constraints in optimization
...r signal corresponds physically to a
concentration and for ease of interpretation having $t_{fast} < t_{slow}$
would not hurt. We could then reparametrize our problem with:
$A = \exp (\alpha)$
$t_{fast} = \exp (\tau_{fast})$
$t_{slow} = t_{fast} + \exp (\tau_{slow})$
$p_{fast} = 0.5 + 0.5 \frac{\pi_{fast}}{\sqrt{1+\pi_{fast}^2}}$
$p_{slow} = 1 - p_{fast}$
and the four parameters: $\alpha, \tau_{fast}, \tau_{slow}, \pi_{fast}$
would be unconstrained.
One could then think of allowing "optim" users to specify more general
boundaries ("lower", "upper") which would be...

Supperscript, subscript and double lines in the main/sub title and using greek letters
...ch one I can use...
When editing the title in R plots, such as using 'plot', or 'xyplot' in
'lattic', what method do you use to write greek letters and make use of
superscript and subscript, e.g. to write mathematical expressions like
using Latex:
\sigma^2
\tau^{2s}
\mu_i
\pi_{2s}
Also I would like to learn how to make two lines in the main title or sub
title if the text I need it too long for putting in a single line, e.g. are
there some R code/syntax allowing me to do something like in Latex to make
two lines in the title, for example using '//' or '\\'...

Regression models for ordinal responses ??
Hello list,
Is there any mean to fit models for ordinal response other than multinomial
polytomous ("multinom" from nnet ) and cumulative logit ("polr" from MASS)?
I am particularly interested in continuation-ratio model and
adjacent-category logit model. It is for the sake of epidemiology in
wild-living populations!
Many thanks,
Emmanuelle Fromont

Potential cross-platform package building issue
I am using 32-bit R 3.1.2 on Windows 7.
I recently conducted an `R CMD check --as-cran` on a recently-developed
package and received only the 'New submission' note. Research on
StackOverflow and on R-devel suggested this could be ignored. I also used
devtools::build_win() and received no notes or warnings, other than the one
mentioned previously. Lastly, I conducted an `R CMD check` with

PATCH/RFC chain.c: update iterator code, yank from chain.c, move both to separate directory
...tor).
2) Iterator updates
This part is actually pretty large:
2a) sanity checks
- potential add/mul overflows are detected
- partition related checks handled by notsane_{primary,logical,extended,gpt}()
family of functions. They can be easily extended in the future.
- additional checks in main pi_{gpt,dos}_next() functions and subfunctions
2b) EBR+MBR iterator merge
They function now simply as 'dos' iterator (to keep naming consistent with
disklib). Code is split into smaller functions, everything should look pretty
logical.
2c) GPT iterator
Core remained similar to previous vers...

nomianl response model
Is there a way to estimate a nominal response model?
To be more specific let's say I want to calibrate:
\pi_{v}(\theta_j)=\frac{e^{\xi_{v}+\lambda_{v}\theta_j}}{\sum_{h=1}^m
e^{\xi_{h}+\lambda_{h}\theta_j}}
Where $\theta_j$ is a the dependent variable and I need to estimate
$\xi_{h}$ and $\lambda_{h}$ for $h \in {1...,m}$.
Thank you,
Mauricio Romero
