Intermittently Get "Target filesystem does not support long file names" when copying file to Samba share
I have two CentOS servers running samba3-3.0.34-37. When I connect to a samba share from my Windows 2003 R2 servers, and then try to copy a file to it, I often get the message "target filesystem does not support long filenames." Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I've been fighting this problem for 2 years. I've replaced my Windows servers, changed my Windows

Selective Survival Statistics with R
...Date (the date the stent was implanted) Description (diameter of the stent) Patient (name) MRN (ID number) Age (age in years of the patient) Physician (last name of the implanting physician) status (0 or 1) days (days alive since the stenting procedure) Cr INR BR MELD The data set has over ten physicians. Following the examples in "Introductory Statistics with R" I have been able to draw cumulative survival curves and even the survival curves by physician but there are so many curves on the graph when I do, it is uninterpretable. I would just like to plot the survival curves of say the t...

Clustering Question
Hi group, My case has N physicians with each seeing M patients. One physician could have seen a group of patients, or, a patient could have been seen by multiple number of physicians. In order words, there are overlaps. Now, I have the following NxM matrix Patient#1 Patient#2 Patient#3 ....... Patient#m Physician#1...

Difference between summary.lm() and summary.aov()
I have a simple linear model (fitted with lm()) with 2 independant variables : one categorical and one integer. When I run summary.lm() on this model, I get a standard linear regression summary (in which one categorical variable has to be converted into many indicator variables) which looks like : Estimate Std. Error t value Pr(>|t|) (Intercept) -3595.3 2767.1 -1.299

Input on application design
I have an online doctor/dentist search. Right now I have all the code in one controller, with separate views and actions for the doctor and dentist. About 80% of the code in both the controller and the view is shared. Doctors and dentists are in separate tables with different (yet very similiar) schema''s. So the sql queries are different, and some of the information displayed in the

an ordinal regression MCMC run high correlation
...nding physician of the patient is also in the data. Since it is ordinal, I used the ordinal logit model topbox[i]~discrete with probability P[j,1],p[j,2], p[j,3], j is the corresponding physician of the ith patient C[j] is the physician effect , a1 and a1+theta is the common cutpoints for all physicians I generate 10,000 iteration and there are still high autocorrelation of a1 and tau. I thought 10,000 is a pretty big number and the chain converges really slow. I am a new MCMC user and don't know other ways to solve this problem. Will someone please give some suggestions that may apply to thi...

Long to wide format without time variable
Hi all, I am trying to convert a data set of physician death codings (each individual's cause of death is coded by multiple physicians) from long to wide format, but the "reshape" function doesn't seem to work because it requires a "time" variable to identify the sequence among the repeated observations within individuals. My data set has no order, and different numbers of physicians code each death, up to...

Is R good for not-professional-statistician, un-mathematical clinical researchers?
Alternate title: How can I persuade my students that R is for them? Alternate title: Can R replace SAS, SPSS or Stata for clinicians? I am teaching introductory statistics to twelve physicians and two veterinarians who have enrolled in a Mentored Clinical Research Training Program. My course is the first in a sequence of three. We (the instructors of this sequence) chose to teach R rather than some other computing environment. My (highly motivated) students have never encountered anyt...

...t presents 3) if they do not already have an EMR system, this give them an entry point that addresses one of the major barriers to adoption: the cost of getting existing records into the system (patients do most of the data entry for them) 4) it gets the politicians off their backs ("98% of US physicians now accept patient''s medical records in electronic form" instead of "Physicians are slow to adopt IT...") The benefits to the RoR community include: 1) increased visibility of RoR in general (EMRs are a hot topic and I have plans that will ensure the site gets national atte...

Backslash Escaping in View
Ok, I''m hoping this won''t be a forehead slapper, but take a look at this code: physician.name.sub(/''/, "\\''") I''m trying to substitute a single quote with a backslash and a single quote. This seems pretty simple right? Well, someone kick me and tell me why it''s not :) Here''s what I''m getting if the

gamm with correlation structure question
Dear group, I am trying to use gamm() in mgcv. Here's the scenario. The data frame has approx. 110K observations with information on paediatric readmission binary outcome (Y/N) and total volume of their most responsible physician as the covariate. Since any physician can have multiple patients, the data contains clustering structure which I am trying to account for. My original formula is

Intermittently Get "Target filesystem does not supportlong file names" when copying file to Samba share
> I have multiple CentOS servers running a couple versions of Samba > serving various Windows versions and I've never once ever seen > this message. Glad to hear it. That's the kind of behavior I would normally expect. One thing that might be different between our environments is that my users are all in Remote Desktop sessions connected to a pair of Windows terminal servers.

Repeated tests against baseline
I came across a post by Karl Knoblick regarding the modeling of longitudinal data (see https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2007-May/132137.html). I am often asked by physicians to perform what Karl refers to in his post as option 1: to perform paired t-tests against baseline at each follow up time point (30 days, 90 days, 6 months, etc.). Unlike Karl's example, however, many of the trials I am involved in are one-armed (so there are no across-trial-arms comparisons)....

OT: Suggestions for database for physicians patient records?
This is very OT. If list readers can point me in the right direction, to other mailing lists, or web sites for recommended databases, that will be much appreciated! My wife's doctor wants to move records, for approximately 6000 patients (over a 12 year period), from paper (18th century) to a database (20th century). The data entry will be a PITA, for his secretaries, regardless of what
