Replacement web server time - catalog CPAN and PEAR installs
I'm looking to replace an OLD Fedora web server with a Centos 7 one. I'm currentlly in the process of documenting what is on the server ready to install the new one. While most things have been done with RPMs, some installs have had to be done via CPAN for Perl and PEAR for PHP. Is there a way of getting a list of everything that has been installed using these tools?

Windows Vista password dialog keeps coming up
Hi, I have come to my wits end again (lately, it's a very short trip). I have been trying to connect to Samba 3.0.21b but Windows keeps throwing up the logon dialog. I'm using "Map network drive" to try to mount this share. It seems the problem is only on the Windows side since I have tested the connection through the Unix account. Both user id and password work fine.

accessing samba over the internet with dreamweaver
Hello, I've got a friend who publishes his site via dreamweaver. He connects to his site via a samba share and opens and saves files. Now the sites have tempoarily relocated. I'm wanting him to still be able to access his site files with his dreamweaver over the internet. Is this doable with either samba, directly through dreamweaver, or something else? This needs to be as simple

SELinux Samba Exception on EL6
We are planning to migrate to EL6 and came across this issue that I am trying to get around. Current system spec: Samba-3.5.10 Selinux-policy-3.7.19 Policycoreutils-2.0.83 Autofs-5.0.5 In EL5 we disabled selinux for samba using 'smbd_disable_trans' directive and the shares work fine. On RHEL6 I couldn't find this Boolean. Is there an alternate directive that accomplishes

locking down ssh when using winbind
Hi all, I'm using samba with winbind which has been integrated with Active Directory. In the smb.conf file, I have template shell = /bin/bash winbind use default domain = yes to allow ssh but I don't want all the domain users to be able to ssh. Is there a way to only allow for example) domain\ssh_group which is an active directory group to be able to ssh into the server? This is my

Hi all I am trying to get windows AD logins to work with Fedora 8/9 linux.I had the same setup working well with fedora 7 , but with fedora 8/9 the problem is whenever I do "getent passwd 'username'" the login shell is listed as /bin/false and users cannot login , even though I have set it to use template shell= /bin/bash in the smb.conf configuration file. kinit succeeded but ads_sasl_spnego_krb5_bind failed
Hi all, I'm having trouble joining samba to active directory. My samba version is 3.0.28a-35 and krb is 1.6.1-17.el5. It's running on centos 5, kernel version 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5. It's running on vmware server by the way if that is of any significance. The specific error that I get are as follows: when testjoining the domain: [2008/03/18 04:34:07, 0]

require_membership_of is ignored
I have a RHEL 6.3 machine successfully bound to AD using winbind, and commands like wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g output the users and groups. I can also log in as any AD user. The problem is, I can log on as any AD user. require_membership_of is being ignored. I can put in a valid group with no spaces in the name, a group by SID, and either way, everyone can log in. I've put this option in both

Help: justification for Linux PDC vs Windows...
Hello, My IT department has implemented a samba PDC and now we are taking flack for it. Can anyone help me out with some good justifications for doing it this way vs the Microsoft way? Have a meeting about it in a short while... We wanted to do it because Linux is more secure and more stable. But there may be other good reasons and it would be good to know them. Or maybe it would be better

Kerberos5 ticket renewal & 'net ads join' w/o authentication
Hello, I have two issues with Kerberos administration using Samba and this results from my lack of familiarity with it. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. The first issue is with automatically renewing the Kerberos tickets. The second issue deals with my having to authenticate each time I attempt to join an AD domain. The Samba documentation indicates that I should *not*

CentOS 6.8 and samba
> Samba 4.x is an intimidating piece of software. If it can perfrom the same function and use the same config, I'm willing to try it. Without log messages or process table info, it's hard to advise any further. Generally speaking, Samba4 can do everything that Samba 3.6 does. If your server is a domain member or standalone, it should be relatively straightforward. I migrated my Samba
