Shorewall and OpenVSwitch on Debian
Hi, I have a machine with a Debian Stable installation that runs
OpenVSwitch to connect a virtual machine on the same box.
The machine is also running shorewall.
The problem that I''m having is that shorewall try to run before
openvswitch, this makes that shorewall fails because it can''t
determine the IP of the virtual interface generated by openvswitch
that start after

I am sure Digium would not prefer to
acknowledge this, but the phenomenal growth of Asterisk is due to the
aavailability of a free G729 codec compiled and distributed free by Arkadi

NAT problem assistance...
Hi folks,
I took the plunge recently to move NAT from my router to my shorewall
config, and mostly things are ok. Most traffic moves around without
problems but sometimes I am having trouble accessing external webservers
from non-gateway internal computers. I have stared at the traffic in
wireshark (even 2 wiresharks on different interfaces) but can''t see the
problem. Nevertheless

strange speed of mkfs Centos vs. Debian
Hi,
I'm testing a storage system and different network settings and I'm
faced with a strange phenomen.
Doing a mkfs.ext4 on the centos server lasts 11 minutes.
The same mkfs.ext4 command on the debian installation is done in 20 seconds.
It is formatting a 14 TB 10Gbit ISCSI Target.
It is the same server. Centos and debian are installed on different
internal harddisks.

samba-2.2.8a-220 and OSX
Hi to all.
We have a samba-2.2.8a-220 Server. The server works still fine
with several clients (W9x, W2k, WXP and smbmounts via Linux).
But now I have to connect an Apple OSX and now I have one
problem. From OSX I can connect to the shares, browse the file
listing. But when a file is copied into a share, the file is on
the destination with 0 (zero) Bytes filesize. The linux uid and
gid are

[LLVMdev] Forward: Discussion about custom memory allocators for STL
...hould not be pulling boost into the source tree.
But I will reassert my point that using Boost as a library can be a good
thing. Yes, it's an additional dependence for llvm, but all of the parts
of Boost I use are header-only and thus don't create a linking problem.
Honestly, Boost is soo phenomenally good in places that's it's pretty
much a second standard C++ library.
In my experience, maintaining a private fork leads to trouble down the
road.

Crysis on Wine? Works... kinda? help?
I love puppy... A LOT. It has offered me the fastest processing out of all the OS's I've tried, and it just works, with every PC!
I first started using it for my Java servers. It was phenomenal, no issues, extremely fast. Then I eventually switched my main OS to puppy.
I modded and played a game called 'Minecraft', another java based game... That was also, phenomenal. My suped

Recommended howto/guide for installing samba4 on ubuntu 12.04?
Most of what I've found involves installing from source, which I'm not opposed to for a pilot install but for production I would rather use the distro packages or sernet.
Or is this nuts/shortighted/ignorant?
At any rate, I'm looking for a good guide for getting it set up as an AD controller, and then migrating my existing samba3+openLDAP+autofs setup to the new platform. Having

Can't connect to DSL modem on em1

Hi,
Since changing to NetworkManger on Fedora 18 I can no longer connect to the
DSL Modem, which is connected to Interface em1.
When the NetworkManger brings up the interfaces and ppp0, it no longer
assigns an IP to em1.
If I have ppp0 disabled and NetworkManger brings up the interfaces, em1
gets an IP of 192.168.1.2.
Then when I get

Great work!
I've just spent a happy couple of days writing a text file for formatting with
Markdown. The results are phenomenal! It's easy to write, and attractive to
read. I'll try to send a Christmas present to the writer :-)
But when I looked at the perl source, I also found that it was small and
well-structured. Of course, I couldn't resist adding a few things that appealled
to me.

Opportunity for Ogg/Vorbis in hardware...
Guys... I'm not subscribed to the list, but I've been reading your
archives for about a year, watched the progress, the push to Beta 1,
and been, frankly, in awe of some of the hard topics all of the
extremely intelligent people who have been tackling. (I'm not too up
on my fractal compression and using splines to track pixel motion in a
stream.)
Ok, that said, I was speaking with

Do you use R for data manipulation?
...es that python or another language is a far better
tool for developing data manipulation scripts that can be then used by
several members of our research group. Her assessment is that R is useful
only when it comes to data analysis and working with statistical models.
So what do you think:
1)R is a phenomenally powerful and flexible tool and since you are going to
do analyses in R you might as well use it to read data in and merge it and
reshape it to whatever you need.
OR
2) Are you crazy? Nobody in their right mind uses R to pipe the data around
their lab and assemble it for analysis.
Your insights wou...

[LLVMdev] Documentation Issues Welcome?
Having recently become interested in llvm I've read a lot of
documentation on your website. Considering that a 2.5
release is due out soon, I'm guessing there will be
additional readers and writers focusing on the docs.
Would feedback in this area be welcome?

I agree. There are a few gotchas, as well as branch stuff like matchspy that is phenomenally useful, but largely undocumented and therefore underused. (though by the looks of it matchspy is now in core). I actually find the API docs to be a comprehensive reference, which is a great start - I've recently been trying to use various RabbitMQ wrappers for PHP and its incredibly frustrati...

mdf -- better adaption of W?
...e into one of it's "speakers"?
Well.. headsets ARE stereo, and the music it had trouble cancelling was
music with strong stereo separation -- the residual echo was the sound
from the other speaker. Which is quite natural.
Same goes for the voice, as we use positional audio. (Helps phenomenally
to have positional audio when two people try to talk at the same time;
without positioning it is very hard to distinguish them).
So, redoing the simple tests after adjusting the balance so all the sounds
came from just the right side, everything worked PERFECTLY.
Sorry for the erronous bugrepo...

SIP-Channels cannot be created after a while of running asterisk ...
Hi list!
I've got a strange phenomen running asterisk for a while. After about
two or three days without restarts, asterisk is not able to create
SIP-Channels anymore, but gives me messages like
Sep 4 00:12:06 WARNING[7175]: Unable to allocate channel structure
Sep 4 00:12:06 NOTICE[7175]: Unable to create/find channel
A reason this happens could be "hanging" SIP-Channels,
