Strange TCP ports phenomena
Hello list. I have new server on CentOS 4.1 - fresh installation. During security tests I've noticed: When I scan server ports (nmap) from the outside there is 21 tcp port open. But when I check on the server (netstat -tan or lsof -i) there is no any open 21 tcp port. Any ideas? To be honest I'm confused. Regards P.S.: of course I don't have started FTP service. Even I don't

quantic phenomena in migrations
I have an application with 15 migrations under version control. In a Mac and and in a Windows, a rake migrate from scratch runs them all just fine. But in a different Windows machine rake migrate stops after migration 3 for no apparent reason. --trace seems normal. No error is reported. Both Windows are XP SP2. They all have the same svn revision and Rails-related software, database is

How do I run to or more R consoles on Mac OS X?
This is really annoying me... when I click R application icon it brings already opened session in the focus and it DOESN'T open new session.... any ideas? -- View this message in context: http://n4.nabble.com/How-do-I-run-to-or-more-R-consoles-on-Mac-OS-X-tp930979p930979.html Sent from the R help mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

concatenating two successive time series
Dear Helpers, I am looking for methods and tools to compare and then to concatenate two successive time series. They are both in the same frequency and they describe one phenomena. There is no time gap between them. The problem is that the method of measurements has changed between both time series and they are no statistically the same. I would like to merge them to receive one homogeneous time series. Here is an example of time series ts1 (1982-1999) and ts2 (2000-2006...

Duplicate PID
Hi, I'm using samba version 3.0.37 and i encountered a very strange and annoying phenomena when 2 different users from 2 different machines are getting the same PID from samba. (2 windows users that are trying to view documents on the CIFS share). I did some google research on this problem and i found the following regarding such a problem: " One can find references to problems li...

xp/2003 explorer freezes browsing shares on Samba 3.2 ipv6 hosts
After upgrading one of our servers from Fedora 7 to Fedora 9, from Samba 3.0 to 3.2.0-2.17.fc9 I noticed this strange phenomena: Windows 2003 and XP clients freeze when you type "\\server" in an explorer address bar where "server" is the name of the Samba 3.2 host. Windows 2000 clients don't freeze. 2003/XP clients don't freeze when you enter "\\server\share" They un-freeze if you r...

corrupt attachments
...We just realized last night that dovecot-stable seems to be corrupting the attachments within users' inboxes. In an attempt to resolve the problem, we upgraded the mail server here to Dovecot 1.0alpha4 but it didn't help. To the best of our knowledge we didn't start experiencing this phenomena until we migrated from Solaris 8/Sparc to Solaris 10/x86 about 3 weeks ago. To be more specific: A non-corrupt attachment can be sitting within a user's mail spool (mbox format) and live there without a problem until an imap client goes to download the attachment via dovecot. At that time, do...

Request for help
...ela Marignani and I'm an ecologist trying to solve a problem linked to knight' s tour algorithm. I need a program to create random matrices with presence/absence (i.e. 1,0 values), with defined colums and rows sums, to create null models for statistical comparison of species distribution phenomena. I've seen on the web many solutions of the problem, but none provides the freedom to easily change row+colums constraint and none of them produce matrices with 1 and 0. Also, I've tryied to use R, but it is too complicated for a not-statistician as I am....can you help me? Thank you f...

estimate phase shift between two signals
...stimate the phase-shift between two semi-sinusoidal vectors? Here is what I have tried so far, using the spectrum() function -- possibly incorrectly: # generate some fake data, normalized to unit circle x <- jitter(seq(-2*pi, 2*pi, by=0.1), amount=pi/8) # functions defining two out-of-phase phenomena f1 <- function(x) jitter(sin(x), amount=0.25) f2 <- function(x, a) jitter(sin(x + a), amount=0.25) # compute y-values # we are setting the phase shift arbitrarily s <- pi/1.5632198 y1 <- f1(x) y2 <- f2(x, s) # plot: plot(x, y1, type='p', col='red', cex=0.5) lines(l...

Throroughly confused about SetCallerID
...nt asterisk to do what it does normally: tell me the call is from phonenumber xxxxxxxxxx For calls that have a blocked callerid, I want asterisk to indicate that the callerid is unknown, both in the email and in the message envelope on the actual voicemail. Is there any way to achieve both these phenomena? I tried editing chan_sip.c to change the default_callerid there, but that causes its own set of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! CAPI problem - need help
I have installed a Fritz card which I use with chan_capi. If the card is CALLED, everything works perfectly well. BUT: If the card is CALLING, it only sends audio but does not receive it. I have already changed the card, the remote devices etc. I am running out of ideas. Does anybody know this phenomena? I would really appreciate any ideas I could try... Cheers, Arik

Samba-delay (timeout??)
...uple of disks. I've also wondered if it might be some sort of DNS lookup that samba attempts, but fails (because there is usually no connection available to a DNS server.) That might explain why it takes so long before it continues. Now I have removed all references to any DNS server, but this phenomena still occurs. I guess having no DNS-server configured would make Samba/linux to just skip any DNS lookup. Are there anybody out there who has experienced something like this? Hints are welcome! :) -Spaceman Spiff

Bricks not starting after restart node
Hello Gluster Community, I am using Gluster3.10 in a 2-Node-Szenario (with CentosOS7-machines). After restarting one of the nodes, sometimes one of these two phenomena occurs: 1. The brick process of a volume on the newly started node is no longer running 2. The Brick Process Is Running But The First Knot Still Believes He Can not Reach The Brick (Health info reported "Transport endpoint not connected") In both cases it helps to stop and r...

explanation why RandomForest don't require a transformations (e.g. logarithmic) of variables
Dear Researches, sorry for the easy and common question. I am trying to justify the idea of RandomForest don't require a transformations (e.g. logarithmic) of variables, comparing this non parametrics method with e.g. the linear regressions. In leteruature to study my phenomena i need to apply a logarithmic trasformation to describe my model, but i found RF don't required this approach. Some people could suggest me text or bibliography to study? thanks in advance Gianni [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Tidal Time Series Analysis in R
I am looking at using R to analyze time series data containing a tidal component. I need to remove the tidal signal to extract the time series of the phenomena I seek to study. A browse of R-project search engines has not been too fruitful? I've found 'hoa' and 'Rwave', but need further help getting started. THANKS. -wa

Filtering the time series
Hi List, I have a time series of 122 values, actualy it is a time series of daily indian monsoon rainfall. now i want to filter this time series for a particular oscilation say 10 to 20days oscilation. i want to find out what amount of variance is explained by this mode. Which package is available in R for this purpose. and how to calculate nquest frequancy of this series. any help is much

Dropped calls in Asterisk - A general question
Hey all, I have a question for those administrating/building out systems with over 30 users on them. How often do you experience the dropped call phenomena. Would you care to share your experiences including what versions of * you were using, what kind of connectivity was present (T1, Fractional T, Intergrated T, DSL, Cable). Echo? Solutions? (e.g. we bought an X_Brand Echo Canceller). Also, which phones most found favorable with Asterisk on a full f...
