statistics question about a statement in julian faraway's "extending the linear model with R" text
In Julian Faraway's text on pgs 117-119, he gives a very nice, pretty
simple description of how a glm can be thought of as linear model
with non constant variance. I just didn't understand one of his
statements on the top of 118. To quote :
"We can use a similar idea to fit a GLM. Roughly speaking, we want to

Installing a single rpm package from desktop/browser on CentOS 7
If I want to install a software package from a simple rpm file "the GUI
way" on a CentOS 7 system, what am I supposed to do? If I open the file
in the desktop, or alternatively, click on a link to a package in the
browser and tell it to use the default app, gnome-software (I think)
opens, but it just displays the message
Sorry, something went wrong

Formatting axis label numbers on plots
Is there any way to control the format of the axis label numbers on a
plot? More specifically, I have some plots that get axes with label
numbers in exponential format, and I'd like to change that to
non-exponential. Thanks!!

Unable to join samba server to a NT4 style domain/Sam ba-Guide feedback
...s results were "Unable to join domain <domain>"
which indicate a connection to the PDC.
He had the PDC entry in smb.conf and /etc/lmhosts,
so I think the syntax for the example in the
Guide should be revised to "net join rpc -S PDC -U root%not24get"
(which are %not24et on pgs 241/242 in the current Guide)
to aid in first-try success.
Section 7.3.2 might be broken into 2 sections:
7.3.2.1 NT4/Samba Domain with Samba Domain Member Server - Using smbusers

Exported and Collected Resource With User Defined Resource Broken?
Hello all,
The key issue is, if I uncomment the line:
Myresource <<| |>> { ensure => present }
I get the error:
err: Could not find type Myresource on node hmaster
I''m attempting to follow the instructions from the book Pro Puppet pgs.
143-145; however, it seems that there''s a parser issue or I''m very lost,
as I am unable to export and collect my resource while I am able to export
and collect both host and sshkey resources fine. Am I doing something
incorrectly?
I am using Puppet 2.7.5 on both my puppet ma...

I'm using CentOS 7 for development of software that is sometimes used on
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. I conjunction with an update of one of the
applications, I asked some Red Hat users to install the Qt 4 Assistant
application via the qt-assistant package (which is used by a "help"
function in our software.) It seemed like there was no such package in
the Red Hat package set,

limitation in the homes share
Hello all,
I'm trying to install Samba in the most convenient way for a
file-server. This means that I have
to use the homes share to avoid having to execute a script on the
samba server each time a user is created on the domain.
The problem with the homes share is that it creates on-the-fly the
share of each user that connects to Samba, so a user cannot acess the
shares of the others. The

Samba Shares With only Partial Access
I have a 2Win2k, 1Linux (server) LAN; the server is running FC3 and

(pgs 31-35) of John Terpstra's 2004 Samba-3 By Example, and I'm doing
something foolish and wrong on a basic level. I can get access to, and
manipulate the files in, my share (ehines), but neither I, nor the other
user, can get access to the other share (ahines). That I cannot access

[hybrid] : mmap pfn space...
Hi Ian/Stefano,
So, I''m back to using pfn space from maxphysaddr below. Stefano, you
suggested ballooning, but that would be just too slow. There are lot of
pages to be mapped, 4k at a time during guest creation, and I am afraid
ballooning and hypercalls to populate EPT will be pretty slow.
OTOH, there is tons of address space available between max-physaddr and
max pfn in dom0. Stefano,

Lock-up during boot when Logitech unifying receiver is connected (UEFI problem?)
Hi,
I've got a bit of an issue after I switched to a new laptop for my
CentOS 6.9 installation: I'm using a Logitech cordless keyboard and
mouse that communicate with the system via a so-called "unifying
receiver". If this unit (a small USB thingummy) is connected when I try
to boot the system, it locks up completely. This happens before the GRUB
screen is displayed. The

The command line is your friend.
Have a look at yumex. I think you'll prefer the command line, though.
