pfSense HVM
Hi Everyone,
Does anybody have any experience using pfSense on Xen? I would most
probably have to use HVM...
My idea would be to use PCI-Passthrough to the pfsense DomU, and only
make the Dom0 accessable via the pfsense firewall
Thanks
Jonathan

I have implemented a small local network. I use pfSense as Firewall and Gateway, I have all my servers inside a DMZ, except the domain controllers that are on the LAN.

Wrong battery.date variable value
Denny,
The first three commands had outputs but the "clog /var/log/system.log | grep -i ups” didn't output any. Did I do anything wrong? This is the output without the grep:

Wrong battery.date variable value
Kevin,
As Matthijs noted, pfSense uses a circular log file. The default size is ~500KB, which can be a bit small. You can increase the log file size by changing the “Log file size” parameter on the Log management page. Look for the wrench symbol on the system log page (Status / System Logs / System / General). Note that you have to...

Wrong battery.date variable value
Hi,
I installed apcupsd through pfsense and noticed some discrepancy with the
NUT package. I'm not sure if this is a bug regarding the BATTDATE (apcupsd)
and battery.date (NUT) but BATTDATE shows the correct date of 2016/05/11.
While NUT shows the battery.date as 2001/09/25 which doesn't make sense. Any
ideas?

iptables ... *BSD pf ... pfSense
Hi,
I followed the "Optimizing CentOS for gigabit firewall" posting and as
some posters wrote pf is soo sooo ssooooo mutch faster, I was thinking
to give it a try. But I'm not familier to BSD so I was looking for some
tools and found "pfsense"
http://www.pfsense.org/
"pfSense is a free, open source customized distribution of FreeBSD
tailored for use as a firewall and router"
Has any of the firewall guys on the list ever tested this distri?
What do you think?
Right now we run a iptables Shorewall system and had no pr...

Q: Samba AD, Pfsense, Windows 10, vpn
Your pfSense firewall has OpenVPN built into it already, and you can point pfSense authentication back to your samba AD. We support over 400 users in this model. The configuration file for OpenVPN is common to all users, and they authenticate with their AD credentials.

OpenPVN authentication via Samba AD
A little off topic, but this does revolve around
Samaba.
I'm hoping someone can help me get to a working aolution.
I haven't been able to find a clear quide, but it must
have been done by others.
I'm trying to use setup a VPN using OpenVPN on Pfsense
with authentication via my Samba AD (Version 4.9.4-Debian)
I keep getting a "Could not connect to LDAP server" error
when tying to configure the authentication server. When
I try to test the server I get a "Attempting to fetch Organizational
Units from XXXX failed" error.

captive Portal Pfsense + FreeRadius + MySQL DBMS
Dear Friends Greetings,
i have a question for you, i am sure someone can help. The pfsense captive
portal is up and running. Time countdown vouchers are working without
issue, such as 30m, 45m, 1h & so on.
However, I'd like to set up a download quota of 200MB per voucher. but
then you need to login with a username and password, instead of vouchers.
but I haven't found a way...

upsmon -c fsd command in pfsense master does not shutdown Synology slave
I have pfsense set as the NUT master and my Synology NAS as a slave client.
I tried recreating a shutdown sequence by issuing a /usr/local/sbin/upsmon
-c fsd command in pfsense (so as to preserve battery lifetime while testing
all these) but the weird thing is that my Syno doesn't seem to get a hold of
the F...

Networking problem on virtualized pfSense firewall
Hi.
I've a strange problem with networking and a KVM virtualized pfsense firewall.
My hw host is Ubuntu 12.04 fully updated, with two bridges br0 (LAN) and br1 (WAN).
pfSense is a KVM guest with the two interfaces in virtio mode.
When I run pfSense as fw, the host doesn't seem capable of doing tcp connections outside. I can ping any internal and exernal host, but...

Tinc on PFSENSE box can join mesh, share keys, connect out, but doesn't reply to pings or connections
I've tried IRC in #tinc and #pfsense on freenode for this, not luck yet,
figured I'd try the mailing list.
A summary of my problem is here:

If there are any details I can provide that would help I'll be more than
happy to.

pfSense DHCP integration with Samba AD DDNS
That's helpful.
About half of our DHCP clients are Unixes.
Maybe I'll find a way to make pfSense perform a Kerberos handshake with
Samba for the sake of updating DNS.
If not, I'll just install isc-dhcp-server on the Debian container
running Samba AD.

Question: Samba and YP-Yellow Pages relation.
Hello Everyone,
I am pretty new on this SAMBA list, so greetings!
I have a technical question about the relation of SAMBA and YP (Yellow
Pages/ NiS)
I´ve been learning on how to make my Firewall/proxy solution (based on
FREEBSD/PfSense) to have a trust-relationship with the Microsoft AD/Domain
so I can have Single Sign-on with NTLM/Kerberos integration.
PfSense has the YP (Yellow Pages) disabled by default, what makes SAMBA fail
according to pfSense technical forum people.
Recently, I found a supposed patched version of SAMBA 4...
